Lois Lamya al-Faruqi

Lois Lamya al-Faruqi (Lois Ibsen) (July 25, 1926 - May 27, 1986), wife of Ismail al-Faruqi and an expert on Islamic art.

She earned her B.A. in music from the University of Montana (1948) and then entered Indiana University, where she was awarded an M.A. in music (1949). During this period, she met and married Ismail Raji al-Faruqi. Al-Faruqi was murdered along with her husband on the morning of May 27, 1986 at their home in Pennsylvania.

Al-Faruqi also co-authored The Cultural Atlas of Islam with her husband, which was published by Macmillan.

Orthopoxvirus is a genus of poxviruses that includes many species isolated from non-human mammals, such as Buffalopox virus, Camelpox virus, Cowpox virus, Monkeypox virus, Rabbitpox virus, Sealpox virus, Volepox virus and Ectromelia virus, which causes mousepox. The most famous member of the genus is Variola vera, which causes smallpox. It was wiped out using another orthopoxvirus, the Vaccinia virus.

Floods and earthquakes devastate the provinces of Herat, Helmand, and Kandahar. Pakistan sends a message of sympathy and contributes substantially to relief operations, indicating a marked relaxation of the previously mounting tension between the two countries, largely due to persuasion by Pres. Nikolay Podgorny of the Soviet Union and the shah of Iran. By mutual consent, both countries refrain from hostile propaganda.

Gloria Origgi is an Italian philosopher at the CNRS in Paris (Institut Jean Nicod) who works on the theory of mind, epistemology and cognitive sciences applied to new technology. She is the founder (in 2002) and director of the innovative interdisciplines.org project, a portal where many international virtual conferences in the social and cognitive sciences are being organized.

Gloria Origgi has published a book on the American philosopher Willard Van Orman Quine, Introduzione a Quine, Laterza, 2000. She has edited the collection of essays Text-e. Text in the age of the Internet, Palgrave, 2006, based on a web conference that she co-organized with Noga Arikha and the research team of the library of the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris (contributors include Umberto Eco, Jason Epstein, Dan Sperber and Theodore Zeldin). She has published numerous articles on social epistemology and cultural issues in English, French and Italian.

T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous is a 1998 edu-tainment feature filmed for the IMAX 3D format. The film is directed by Brett Leonard, renowned for his Computer-generated imagery special effects productions. Executive producer/co-writer Andrew Gellis and producers Antoine Compin and Charis Horton also make up the production team. Actors Liz Stauber and Peter Horton star, alongside Kari Coleman, Tuck Milligan and Laurie Murdoch. The film is among the few IMAX films that are considered "pure entertainment" though it still is considered rather educational by the mainstream audience.
