Hey, Luz....

Andre's does that every time the weather changes. It's especially bad at this time of year. We buy saline nose spray. It's just water and salt for the most part. He sprays it in his nose twice a day. It's been working.

Luz,...My children were born in the tropical area of Australia, Darwin. very moist, warm, and wet. Similar climate to the Phillipines. We even got the monsoonal rains etc etc.

Both children were aclimatised and used to that sort of weather. When they came over here to live in germany, they both suffered from the same thing as Robin now. Apart from the humidifier, there is not much else you can do. One of my daughters had a nose bleed so bad, it soaked a whole bathtowel, and took four hours to stop. And she, like robin, was woken up by her nose bleeding. I took her to a specialist, and he cauterised the problem vessels inside her nose, then gave her an ointment, very similar to vaseline, to help keep her nasal passages moist in winter. She applies it with a q-tip, every night and morning, inside her nose, and so far, since it has started getting cold this year, no problems.

If it is forced heat, I might suggest closing the vent in Robins room also. Just a thought!

I ususally get nosebleeds when I have a cold. A few weeks ago I had a nosebleed every morning for four days straight. Sometimes because I sneezed, or blew my nose too hard. Sometimes for nothing - just being in the shower or driving to work (fun!)

Lean forward, pinch the bridge of your nose and wait. I can usually stop a nosebleed in 15-20mins. The clot helps stem the bleeding, but it feels uncomfortable. You can gently coax it out and still have the bleeding stop. (Apologies for the squeamish amongst you, but the devil is in the details.)

It's probably just the dry air. The humidifier is a good idea. Something like Vaseline spread on the inside of his nose might help with the dryness, and I've heard good things about saline sprays, though I've never tried them.

I am pretty sure it's the dry air also. The humidifier that I bought him isn't doing the trick though. I made him an appointment at his doctors for monday. They may want to cauterize the offending blood vessels to put an end to the problem.

in the ER if you have a severe nosebleed..you get cocaine...one of the few things it is used in medicine..

It could be an allergy thing. I remember when i lived in Kentucky my sinus's were so messed up bc of allergies i had nose bleeds all the time. Since ive moved i dont have that prob anymore, and Indiana boarders Kentucky, so i think its just the air in that area

That is scary stuff. Definitely take him to the doc. They might try to cauterize the blood vessel causing the problem.

Hopefully he doesn't get allergies. I sneezed a hour after I had mine cauterised with that silver nitrate stuff - and it blew all the packing out.

Hey Sis. Jinky and Job have both experience dry, sometimes bloody noses from the colder, dry air. Her advice above is what we've used ...you can find the nasal spray at th e store for a few dollars. Make sure that Robin is drinking plenty of water daily and I've read somewhere that Omega3, from fish is helpful for dry skin. Hope that helps. :)

Is he on any medications? I used to get nosebleeds quite often as a kid, and if I remember correctly, it was one of the side effects of my asthma medication.

Me too.. same thing asthma meds made my nose bleed.. I changed my pillowcase every night for a while there.. didn't even wake up most times, just woke up with a red streak across my face

My son has the same problems, we have had trips to the ER because of a nosebleeds that wont stop, what helps my son...(also what the ER told us too) we run a vaporisor at night for humidity, saline nasal spray serveral times a day, also some light oil up the nose to coat the area( like vegi oil, we use canola) We do this everyday. My son has had nosebleeds since he was 18 months old, ( he is now 13) we have had some frightening experiences, blood has come out of his EYES before because of his nose bleeding so badly. The vessels in his nose are much closer to the surface than the average human. Cauterising the area is not an option for him, the area is to large. At the ER they just pack it with a solution that helps constrict the vessels, (it is derived from cocaine) but that is painful they shove that stuff WAY up there. Since we started this regimen we have been nose bleed free. When he gets a cold things can get dry and irritated up there, but as long as we stay on top of it and not let him get dryed out he is ok. I hope that this will help, I know how alarming an uncontrolable nosebleed can be.
