ANOTHER SSN question

My husband received his interim EAD 16 days ago. Then 8 days ago we went to the SS office to apply for his SSN. They told us that they would have to verify his documents and it would take 4 weeks to get the card. We went back yesterday but of course, they have not received verification yet and he still isn't in the SAVE system. We are anxious about the SSN for two reasons.

1. Obviously my husband is getting anxious to start working and he has several good job opportunities that he will be interviewing for in the next few weeks.

2. We are moving from Arizona to Washington state in two weeks.

Does anyone know if the post office can forward the SS card to us in Washington if it doesn't come by the time we move? Or is it like the immigration dep't where they can't forward the mail? If we give the SS office our new address in WA before we leave, will that prolong his number being issued?

Also, has anyone had any luck with starting a job prior to getting the SS number issued? I was reading on the SS website and this is what I found, regarding applying for a SS number as a noncitizen:

"We will mail your number and card as soon as we verify your documents with DHS. While you wait for your Social Security number, your employer can use a letter from us stating that you applied for a number. Your employer can use your DHS documents as proof of your authorization to work in the United States."

HELP!!! How does this all work?

It took about nine weeks for Luvy's status to be checked after her EAD arrived.

It took about 5 weeks for them to get the verification from the USCIS when Claudeth changed her name.

Looks like its gonna take about 8 weeks for me.

To get my named changed on my SSN to my married name took 5 weeks.

I received a letter from them on week 4, then the next week I had my new SSN.

Has anyone tried to work LEGALLY during the time period between applying for a SSN and actually receiving the number and card?
