I'm just making a list of what's needed for the I-134. My fiance is the USC and so he's the primary sponsor, but does not meet the guidelines. We know he has to fill out an I-134 anyway. We have a co-sponsor who more than meets the guidelines. This is what I'm asking him to provide:

- notarized copy of I-134

- tax transcripts for last 3 years

- letter from employer showing salary, length/permanency of employment

- letter from bank showing when account was opened and current balance

My questions

- Does he also need to provide W2s or will the tax transcripts be enough?

- Does the letter from the bank need to show the amounts deposited during the year?

- How many copies of each document does he need to send me? Do I need notarized copies?

- Is the I-134 the only document that needs notarizing?

- Is there anything missing from the above?

I so want to get this right first time!!

If your income exceeds 125% povertyline when counting self, immigrant, and any dependents, then you dont need to provide asset data like bank information.

Tax transcripts are acceptable in place of (Copy of 1040/W2/1099)

Only thing needing to be notarized is the I-134.

How about copes of a few pay stubs.

The directions included with I-134 are very old, USCIS has no reason to update them since USCIS has no application for that form.

The consulates tend to treat the I-134 like a mini-I-864 as so prefer the same financial evidence as the I-864.

In our case this what the I-134 included.

  • I-134 signed and notarized.

  • SIMPLE Tax transcripts from the IRS for past 3 years, (Redundant for the (1040,W2,1099) but are free from the IRS http://www.irs.gov/faqs/faq1-6.html

  • Photo copy of IRS form 1040, and W2s for past 3 years (Not necessary if you provide the transcripts)

  • Letter from my employer stating annual salary, job responsibility, and that is full time, on company letterhead.

  • Photo copies of past month or so of pay stubs up to a few weeks before the interview.
My income was well above the povertyline so I did not include any asset data (LIKE BANK STATEMENTS or property values).

If your income exceeds 125% of the povertyline when counting yourself, prospective immigrant and any dependents, then don't bother with assets (401K, Bank balance, Stocks etc..), it is just extra un-needed data to provide, the consular officer is most concerned with INCOME.

OK, so I'll add some copies of pay stubs to the list of things to provide.

Where does it say in the instructions that proof of assets isn't required if income is sufficient? I believe you... but it's always nice to see it in the "official" place.

Also, it says on the form that the evidence needs to be in duplicate... so I'm guessing we need to make copies of everything... right?

Definitely make copies of the financial evidence you're using for your interview. My now-husband gave me his original copy of the 1040 that he filed in 2006 and forgot a photocopy it for my interview at the embassy. Luckily my father-in-law had a .pdf file on his computer!
