On filling out the I-864 I asked my dad to also fill one out and supply last year's taxes and passport copy. My current income is enough, however I am only months into my first full time job since I recently graduated college and was fully dependent prior. That said, I don't have 3 years of tax returns or much proof that I am financially stable. Is it ok for me to go ahead and have my dad be a joint sponsor even if I might meet their standards? I like having the security of his financial record, but I don't want it to create questions about our application.

Thanks!

I'm admittedly NOT an expert on these steps (I have yet to get there myself), and don't know any more than you do, but my 2¢ is that it's likely better to have too much than too little.

Good luck!

Does even your most recent tax return (2006) meet the minimum income requirements of your household size? Keep in mind that you're not forced to send in the last three years, only the last year.

Shouldn't be a problem to have your dad act as your joint sponsor, whichever decision you come to. :)

Good question. I made very minimal money in 2006, maybe a couple of grand, so that won't cut it. I think you may have answered my question :)
