Hi,

We are just about ready to go through the NVC process. I have questions about the next step:

1. Can we email/call Cairo Embassy with the new assigned case number and request the packet 3 and an interview date? Has anyone done this?

2. Where can my SO go for his medical review? I saw a list a while back. He lives near Maadi in Cairo, where would be the closest approved place?

3. How many passport sized photos would you recommend he have taken?

4. Is the fee to pay CIB 100 US dollars or 100 EGP?

5. Does his Arabic records HAVE to be translated for the interview? OR just for the AOS stage?

6. How closely is the I134 looked at there. I have tax transscripts, w2 records, recent pay stubs, letter from bank, letter from employer. I was off work last year to take care of my parents and only started back to work in June of this year. Will this be an issue since I also have my social security read out which shows I've worked every year for the last 26 years except for last year. (some years I didnt make much but I worked, more so recently I was above the poverty guideline as I was single again) I was "gifted" the house I share with my parents which has equity and I have a fairly recent appraisal on it. Should I include this just to show stability or will Cairo look for a cosponser? (I have that if needed)

Any other suggestions on things I may need for packet 3 and interview??

Thanks

Documents only need to be translated for AOS, not the interview. Have your SO have them translated in Egypt to save money before he gets here. Make sure the name, address and phone number of the translation office is on at least the BC in case he needs it here for an ID (for DL or other purposes). I don't know if that's necessary for USCIS but some DMVs require it (ours did).

CIB fee is $100US.

Not sure how closely the I-134 is scrutinized but it sounds like you have plenty of proof of income. My husband had his interview Dec. 2006, I only worked a partial year in 2005 so my taxes showed a low income. I included all of my pay statements for 2006, my bank statements and a letter from my employer. Have you made sufficient income so far this year? If it's shown on your pay statements that you've made sufficient income this year then you should be good. My husband sent in his packet 3 in Sept. but didn't interview until Dec. I scanned in the remaining pay statements for the year and had him bring them to the interview. That was sufficient for us.

I wanted to add...

Not sure where he would go for his medical in Cairo. My husband went to a doctor in Alex. I'm sure there are others here who could help with that. You may want to have him wait until at least your NOA2 comes though. Definitely have him wait until the packet 3 arrives for the police report. It only takes a day or two anyways.

Most places that do passport photos give six of them. I just looked at the packet 3 info I have here and it says he'll need three.

If your SO doesn't already have a passport, have him get one. He'll need to include a copy of it.

He'll have to include a return fee for DHL. Not sure the cost but they'll tell him when he goes to ship the packet 3 back to the consulate.

4. Photocopy of military certificate (for men between 18 and 50 years of age)

5. An Affidavit of Support (Form I-134) signed by the Petitioner and notarized before either a notary public in the U.S. or a consular officer at the embassy (this can be done on the day of your appointment).

6. Petitioner’s most recent year of federal income taxes (form 1040 only). Please also bring the most recent W2 form and a job letter indicating current salary and length of employment

7. Medical exam for applicant list attached

8. Applications:

a. Two completed DS-156 visa application forms; you fill it online and print it through the link: https://evisaforms.state.gov/ds156.asp

b. Form DS-156K; you may also print it through the link http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/82063.pdf

c. Form DS-157, you may print it through the link: http://www.state.gov/documents/organization/79964.pdf

9. 2 photos face view photos with a white background for the applicant

10. A receipt of payment for the visa application ($100) from the Commercial International Bank (CIB) in Egypt.

Once she prepares the required forms, she should forward them via DHL courier service. Once received, we will review the case and schedule an appointment for her final visa interview on the first available slot.

I e-mailed asking for this packet for 3 months, but did not recieve it until I requested an extension on our approval. But they did tell me when it was finished processing (1 week after they received it).... after that point you can turn in your packet 3 anytime I think.

I would send an e-mail confirming the reciept of the file and see what they say.

They just kept asking me to verify his address, but confirmed that the packet had never been sent  But at least I know they have the right address now because he received his packet 4 by DHL...

Oh yeah, and my SO took $100 USD to the CIB and they told him it has to be the equivalent in EGP... so he had to go get it converted back into EGP from USD  Kinda silly....

Well I will have earned jsut under the poverty level since i didnt work the full year..however if I had worked all 12 months my income is well over poverty level. Just I will not have made 17,500 by years end. Will this hurt me if I have letter, pay stubs...because they will look at my income as if it was the whole year, right?

Well since it's already Nov. by the time you get your NOA2 then the case gets sent to Cairo, packet 3 is sent and finally the interview date is set it may be the first of next year. By then you should have made the required amount so you could send your SO updated pay statements showing the entire amount earned in 2007. Like I said, that's what I did. When I sent my husband his packet 3 stuff I still hadn't earned the required amount but by the time the interview came I had the newer pay statements to prove that I had earned enough. Unless things have changed from last year, the pay statements alone should be enough. I would still send in all the documentation you listed just in case.

Here's a catch....

I work to deliver papers at night (sounds cheap..but actually pays VERY well). Last April I took this job with my father. The contract was in his name as well as pay till June of this year. When we changed the contract to my name...they just changed the name in their system from what I understand. So that it shows that I have had this since April of LAST year. Although the pay and taxes were in my fathers name. So when they do the letter my boss said, they will do it as of April of last year as my start date. I didnt personally have a w2 last year, but because of when my divorce was final my ex husband was still able to use me as a deduction so the tax information has his income on it as well....how do I do this? "Technically" the income has always been mine...but for personal reasons started in in my fathers name. Does any of this make sense? On my petition I put on that I started in June of this year. I dont want a discrepancy...so should I just have the office use THAT as my start date? Im assuming they will 1099 ME in MY name for the entire year....not my father, since they change the name and did not start an entirely new contract account for me.
