Using bank statements, do they accept them if I whiteout stuff like the account number? I mean, is it as good an idea as I think it is to cover up that kind of info? You know, things they don't need to know.

I was just going to whiteout the account numbers if they don't need those. I THINK that wouldn't be a problem. Is there any other info I should whiteout.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but bear with me here.

I must give them these papers because I have no income right now. I realize for many people it is quite unnecessary, but my case is not the same.

Thank you

If I cause offense it is not on purpose, think about that before you take offense. If you feel offended, consider that maybe I'm not talking about you and maybe I accidentally stumbled onto a sore area and do not know. Thank you.

I've never felt this was necessary. This is the government. They get your account information every year from banks with tax records.

In my case it is necessary. Can someone just answer the question?

My mom sold the house we grew up in and the money I got from it does not show up on last year's tax return since I got it in 2007 not 2006.

I believe I answered your question.

If you want to white it out - white it out. Don't be getting all snotty with me if you don't like the answer.

I asked about this yesterday and no one said a word. I have assumed that is because some didn't know the answer, and anyone else thought the questions had been asked too many times.

I am feeling the time crunch here. Bear with me. I am trying to get this to the post office so it can get sent out today, since I didn't finish yesterday. I did not see that you said "white it out if you want to." I only heard someone who thought using bank statements was usually unnecessary. Which is the only sort of answer I can find right now - and does not address my situation where assets are the only things I can use for that poverty income 125%.

And is there any other info on a bank statement that should be whited out. Regardless of judgements that it is never necessary to use bank statements.

This is probably a bad time of day to be asking questions and trying to get complete, DIRECT answers.

Anyway, never mind. I FINALLY stumbled on the correct search terms and found the answer. I'm telling you I did look. But I didn't use the right words. In some ways I am good with words. In others ways I am terrible.

YES you can black them out or whiteout, I called and asked before I sent in this same information to USCIS and was told I could AND they do not need your account numbers to be truthful, the government has too much access to way too much private information in this entire process or they force you to give it up to them, it is one thing for the IRS to handle these records but is scares the hell out of me to see so many different levels of government or depts have a copy of our personal financial information floating around now and for maybe 40 years thanks to this Patriot Act, I understand your feelings completely, if a person knew they were going to shred this stuff or delete it after so long or if it was completely secure who would mind, but let us face it, there are way too many breaches in USA federal government security all the time and many laptops disappearing and computer files being accessed that need not be and the Feds are great at covering their asses up all the time. AND then we wonder why there is identity theft, the more this private personal information is passed around or shared the more chances rise you will have it happen to you.
