Hi--My SO and I are working on assembling our I-485 package and are confused by a couple of things. Here are the questions:

1. Does he have an "A" number they are always asking about? On the back card of his I-94 there is a handwritten number starting with an A. Or is the number of his I-94 the number written on the front that says "Departure Number"?

2. Is the visa number itself the one written in red at the bottom right next to the "clearance received" date? If so, what is the "control number" that is listed at the top right?

3. It says submit a copy of NOA2 "Approval for I-129F". We can't really figure out what that is. Is it a letter from CA or from RI or a letter from Casablanca to him? I have a NOA1 paper from Texas that is clearly marked NOA1 for I-797C at the top right, but not one for NOA2 for I-129F.

We appreciate any help we can get on this. THANKS A LOT!!! D and H

1. He may or rmay not have an A number. sounds like he does. it is often on the back of hte 1-94. Myhusband had his on the NOA2.

2. Without looking at the visa I cant remember. someone else will come along nd know or I will look at teh visa latere when the sun comes up LOL (its just 5 am here LOL)

3. You would have recieved a letter (I-797) from USCIS telling you your petition for the fiance visa was approved. This woul dhave been before the petititon was on its way to NVC and then Casa. It looks identical to your NOA1 (also a I-797)which tells y ou they recived your petition. You must have this aproval to file for AOS. If you do not, then you can request a new one from USCIS, but the cost is rather steep if I remember.

24 March 2009 I-751 received by USCIS

27 March 2009 Check Cashed

30 March 2009 NOA received

8 April 2009 Biometric notice arrived by mail

24 April 2009 Biometrics scheduled

26 April 2009 Touched

...once again waiting

1 September 2009 (just over 5 months) Approved and card production ordered.

2. Is the visa number itself the one written in red at the bottom right next to the "clearance received" date? If so, what is the "control number" that is listed at the top right? It's the number written at the bottom right-hand side of the visa. See example.

Here is the NOA2 that you need. If you did not receive one, make sure you mention it in your covering letter and provide a printout of the online approval notice.

The A# can also be found on the NOA2 as well, next to the beneficiary's name.

Nini - Vancouver BC, Canada (she's the one who does the forum thing)

Bee - Devon PA, USA (he's the one who gave her the shiny ring)

Getting our sanity tested by bureaucracy since 2007.

Here we go again...

Be SURE to note Krikit's correction to his own post... the A number is NOT the number written on the front of the I-94 that says Departure Number.
