Things are going great, thanks. Been busy getting settled into the new routine. Got my car insured and plated in NY state this week My biggest headache is trying to get my head around taxes .... its almost that time. Zyggy has been a great help

But honestly, I had to do 3 years worth before our file got to NVC, and once you do one, it's a piece of cake, granted having income in both countries makes it a little more complicated, but I bet once you do one you will find it a breeze.

Yep, my first priorty after moving is taxes ... that sux. I agree though, once I get all the facts and get the first one done the rest should be much better. The Pros really want to much money to prepare it and I can't afford those rates.

I also just called social security to inquire about my SSN. I told them I had requested a card as part of my immigration paperwork and they told me it's better to come in and do the application. Next Tuesday I will do that since I need that to get my drivers license and ultimately do the tax return.

That's a good point. After reading experiences here of people who ticked 'yes' on the DS-230 - to the SS card question and then never receive their SS card automatically - I ticked off 'no'.

I agree. It's never a good idea to rely on government bureaucracy. NY DMV even sent me back to US customs because they did not stamp the import form for my car.

I hope that goes ok. NY has some interesting laws concerning cars. A few years ago, I was licensed in 48 states in insurance and NY really stands out to me still because of how different things are. I don't work in insurance anymore. I just remember that they charge you per day that you don't have insurance on your car and that they have barcodes on their insurance cards. Good luck with it all.

They sure are... I feel like we are playing Yahtzee or on a game show with the Come on down...lol I am just joking. I feel the same way, I am very interested to find out our interview date (s). I did call yesterday to just "see" and nothing yet. Hang in there! We should know by next week or the week after.

I hope so! I work as a nanny and finished with my previous charges 2 weeks ago. Today I have an interview for a temporary position, but the mother (understandably) wants to know when I will be leaving. I told her that I expect to be here until the end of March. Do you folks think that is a reasonable estimate?
