Happy day!!! Just got mine for January 7! See you there Jill & Jeff and PixelUlu ;-)

Are any of you guys from Vancouver?

We're actually coming from Repentigny, Quebec which is about 20 minutes north of Montreal. We got lucky in living close. I took off the 6th and 7th so I can drive up from New Hampshire. Jeff already scheduled his medical for Monday December 13th with Medisys. We wanted to get it done early in case there were any issues. Since he lives so close, we don't have to worry about getting it done in a single trip. I'm still thinking about getting a hotel for the night of the 6th close to the Consulate, mostly because I don't want to deal with the insane morning commute trying to get into Montreal on the 40.

It's awesome that there are already three of us scheduled for the 7th! See you both there!!

When I booked my medical last year they returned my call later the same day. Others have had to wait a few days but if you do not hear today call back. I found them very polite and helpful and had no problem booking a date with plenty of time to spare before my interview. Good luck.

A friend of mine got her interview for Jan 12th. Can someone explain the whole DHL thing to us?

Thanks

Your friend's interview letter explains that she must log in to this site using her passport number and birth date:

http://www.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/login

Here is a post where I explain the process in detail:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/94768-ir1-cr1-montreal-timeline-to-interview/page__view__findpost__p__4238348

There's a ton of good information if you read through the posts for this topic. I highly recommend it.

What is the most easiest way to send your personal belongings, mostly clothes? What if you have lets say more than several luggages of clothes. And if you want to send the clothes in advance, how do you go about sending them? It will go from Montreal to California. My wife has visited me several times but she was afraid to be bring an extra luggage of clothes to drop off cause she was afraid of U.S. Customs thinking that she might be visiting here with intentions to stay in the U.S. So cause of that she hasn't packed extra so that they don't get any misleading ideas.

Oh, you guys are lucky! Hubby and I are just an hour away from each other here, but Montreal is so far for us. The plane fare is so expensive! But I guess he'll have to go with me as I can't leave a breastfeeding 2-month old baby (by then)for 2-3 days. I wonder if we can take the baby inside the embassy ;-)

See you then! ;-)

More people are asking me where I found all that information. Here are the detailed steps for how I found it.

I started out by visiting http://www.immigrantvisas.state.gov.

From there, click "prepare for your visa interview abroad" and it will take you here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3731.html

From there, click "Review the U.S. Embassy/Consulate General-specific Interview Guidelines." and it will take you here: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3742.html

Choose MTL as the consulate and click the button to download a PDF file with specific details for Montreal interviews. That is the same PDF file I posted a link to before. Here it is again: http://travel.state.gov/pdf/supplements/MTL-SUP-ENGL-0008-1009.pdf

Inside that PDF file it says to visit the other NEW scheduling site to choose your DHL location: http://canada.usvisa-info.com/

You log in there by clicking the link in the bottom right corner of the main page to schedule an appointment online. It's confusing because you won't actually schedule an interview; it was already scheduled for you by the NVC. Clicking that link takes you here: http://www.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/login

Check the "I have read..." box and click confirm. Now you enter your passport number and personal info, enter the captcha phrase and log in. For your first visit, you may have to click "schedule an appointment" or "add applicant", I can't remember exactly. If you have already done this previously you will see applicant details displayed, and you can modify those details by clicking "schedule an appointment". Again, very misleading because it doesn't actually let you schedule an appointment until later on. This sequence of forms is for filling out your trip purpose and DHL location.

NOTE: From here on I cannot provide the URL links because they are specific to your passport number and you have to be logged in.

You will get to a point where it asks you for your "Trip Purpose" and you have about two dozen options to choose from. Select the 3rd option from the end of the list "Permanently Immigrate to the US (Scheduled by NVC)".

Next it asks you for the consulate and the only choice available should be Montreal.

Next it asks you for your DHL courier location where you want your visa mailed to. I used Google Maps to figure out which one was closest for us.

Next it displays an information page with three expandable topics giving information about how to prepare for the interview. That is the information that I posted yesterday in the forum.

Next, you have the chance to add more family members or log out. DO NOT proceed with scheduling an interview! Once all applicants have been added and the DHL location selected you are done.

Finally, I found more specific information about the Montreal Consulate on their web site: http://montreal.usconsulate.gov. There is a phone number for the consulate posted there. I haven't tried calling it but if you are unsure about anything you could try calling them: 514.398.9695

The applicant (Canadian who will be immigrating to the US) must register. You will choose a DHL courier location where your passports and visas will be mailed to you when they are issued. You will get a "reference ID" that you can use at dhl.ca for tracking purposes.
