Hi all,

I am just organizing all our final details this week before heading off to Montreal next week. I am one of those 'in Canada' US citizens trying to re-establish domicile, and it is making me nervous. The main issue is that I won't know my medical residency match results until the week after our interview (darned ridiculous 65 day interval!), so we could end up in one of 10 cities in the US. Here is what I do have though:

Re-establishing employment

1. Transcripts showing I have been in school full-time my entire residence in Canada

2. Proof that I have withdrawn from the Canadian match, effectively eliminating my chance of continuing my medical training in Canada

3. Proof that I have entered the US match, which is a legally binding agreement should I match

4. A letter from my medical school stating I am a final year student in good standing and confirming point #2.

5. Letters from several program directors at the US residencies I applied to stating I am one of their top applicants etc (including big Ivy programs)

6. Evidence of my completion of US medical licensing exams

Financial:

1. US credit card with a US address (my mom's)

2. US checking account

3. Canadian US dollar account

4. US cell phone account with US address

5. US student loans used in med school here (vs. using Canadian loans)

Other:

1. Registered to vote at same address in US

2. Letter + rental agreement with my mom, should I match to that city

3. Letter from my husband's employer stating that they know he will not be returning after this academic year if his green card application is successful.

I am having our home appraised this week to show assets for financial support (six figure equity). I am also a co-account holder on my mom's investment accounts in the US (large sums). Do you think I need to have a co-sponsor? If it was after the match deadline, I could show my residency contract to demonstrate income and have a rental agreement. I could also have a letter from the program director stating I am legally bound to the job. But the darn interview is a week too early.

Thanks for your advice everyone! Also, what is that link for the free rental forms?

Hi Edmontongirl,

Your evidence looks really strong, just be prepared to explain it all as it is a bit out of the ordinary.

Just one question about this:

3. Proof that I have entered the US match, which is a legally binding agreement should I match

What happens if you don't match?

I'm not sure what that link is, but perhaps someone else will chime in!

Edmonton, just to give you an idea since we were a domicile case, too.

The CO pointed to three things that gave us approval: Formal lease agreement (not just a letter) with my Grandma, a copy of my paycheck, and my signed oath of office.

Montreal: BEAT!!! Approved!!!!!

Edmontongirl isn't moving back before the interview though.

Do you know what the link is for the rental agreements Mal?

I know, but from what I gather they want financial things to be done - money exchanged sort of things.

I do, but it's at home. I'll post it when I get there.

Saw someone mention "interview buddies" in the K-1 thread, which made me think to look back at our list here. Looks like Blitz's interview is the same day as Yvonne's. :)
