The $400 IV bill covers that. K1s don't pay that bill so they pay at the interview is my understanding.

Actually K visa applicants have a $ 131 fee they pay at the interview. CR1/IR1 applicants have no fee to pay on interview day.

Here is our review:

6:25 am left hotel (LeTour and no bugs!!) It was too cold to walk farther than that.

Went to Timmies on corner and got coffee. Went back to Consulate and 2 couples were there. We all chatted and everyone knew about VJ but no posters except myself.

7:30 doors opened officer looked at passports

officer gave us a list of stuff to have out, went through our things, and sent us downstairs

sat for about 5 minutes and then we got sent upstairs in an elevator.

My husband was second to get called to window 9 the guy was really nice and took our passport pictures, our originals, and AOS, and our envelope.

He then sent us to pay. Computer was down so we had to wait in the meantime the same guy called my husband back to window 9 and took his fingerprints and sent him to wait til the computers were up so we could pay.

10 minutes later the computer was back up, we paid and within 10 minutes we were called to room 7

The lady came in and and swore us in. This is where it gets exciting...

She asked my husband why he wanted to move to the U.S. and he told her

As soon as we were sworn in she stated she couldnt issue us a visa at this time...(I was panicking!)

She said I had no info that indicates that I am moving.. I stated yes I do but no one has asked for it..

I hand it to her and she looks through it and again stated that I havent proven domicile. She said it looks like I've done alot of research though...

I pointed out that I've actually filed all my childrens immunization records to sc to dept of health to make sure they are up to date

she said yes i see that but you haven't enrolled them in school

I agreed stating that It is a private school and they said not to enroll them because we have no move date and therefore they didnt know what the fees were.

I showed her the letter from my family stating we would be living with them until we found a house and the house rental agreement. She questioned why I had 2 addresses, I said I don't but originally we were staying with family but we found a house when we went to visit She again stated she didnt see enough domicile evidence. She then asked about our moving co. I said we were using u-haul or ABf and showed her the quotes. She asked why we haven't booked anything. I stated nicely that we didn't have approval from immigration or a date.

She again stated I haven't showed enough domicile. I said but i have a rental agreement and a deposit.

She stated that anyone can write an agreement and photocopy a check..It would be different if it was cashed.

I stated it was CASHED, and I showed her the bank statement.

By this time I was a wreck (my husband thought I was gonna loose it, meaning cry)

The next thing she said was "I feel you have showed me enough evidence of domicile" and she turned to my husband and said "WELCOME TO THE U.S.A."

The only thing I could do was say "thank you...but you scared me"

My husband asked how long it takes to get the visa and she said 2 weeks and handed us a letter.

We again thanked her and went on our way.

DFC'ers!!!

Domicile is the one thing you really need to pay attention too. I thought I had plenty but as you can see I had just enough.

Make sure you have a deposit on a lease, not just a lease agreement, make sure you take a copy of the bank statement that the check goes through on. I almost didn't take that. Got it in the mail just a few days before interview

If at all possible enroll your kids ahead of time (before you move)

These are two really important things.

Montreal is pretty strick on DFC. So make sure you get as many ties as you can.

Hope this helps

Hmm...when our CR-1 is finally processed and my wife goes for her interview, is this something we're going to have to worry about?

I'm not sure how we prove things like that when most of them require her to actually be in the U.S. with me to get them setup.
