Thanks OBX. Hey I'm looking at your timeline there, so your POE was in June and you didn't get your green card till July? So question here, my wife and I most likely plan on "activating CR1" on date X, but we will probably want to turn right around so my wife can get things in order before moving, plus I'm waiting on the bank and stuff for a house to go through and no offense my parents, she doesn't really want to come live with me and my parents in NY while she has her own place in Ontario. Is it a wise idea after our interview to just go to one of the bridges to activate? or not. I kinda just want to get it over with but I guess then she'd have no green card yet, so would they raise a big stink? Or would they clearly be able to see from her passport on her visa page that shes a PR?
we have interview March 3rd, "ideally" we'd like to move into a new house on April 1st, but thats a whole other story, we're waiting on the bank and blah blah blah. Buying a house is a nightmare in NY. But again, Ideally I'd like to get her approval, then get her Visa back and she can start coming over every so often to start setting up and painting the new house. I know we have 6 months to POE but there's that excitement of POE-ing sooner rather than waiting lol.

On that same note, I was reading stuff on getting her a SS card and number. So we can start that process now? Is it advised or just to wait. How long is it until she'd get that?

I did my POE at the Peace Bridge and had no issues. (My review is in my timeline.) They will stamp the visa page of your wife's passport and that will act as a temporary green card allowing her to travel freely until the actual card arrives.

I did not close on the sale of my house until the end of July and I travelled back and forth a few times prior to that. I didn't have any problems using my passport although my first trip back (end of June) I was questioned (on my way back to the US) as to why I had returned to Canada so soon after my POE. I simply told the officer I had returned for my son's graduation and she was okay with that. All my future trips were without incident.

I have heard of some VJ members doing their POE and turning right around without any problems.

As far as the SSN goes many have had to apply at the local SS office despite ticking off the application box on the DS-230. When I arrived in June, I was told at the local SS office that they preferred you wait at least three weeks after POE to apply. I applied three weeks to the day and had my card 6 days later.
