Kinda disapointing to see no names on the bottom of that list have any interview dates scheduled. No interviews scheduled in Montreal(Minus Cndwife) Lets hope those names get dates soon!

Hey guys!! Im hoping I get my name on the bottom of this new "green page timeline" Trailmix so graciously typed up for all of us!! Good luck to me and everyone else anxiously waiting!

I had a VERY off topic question, but felt since some of you are in the same position you might be able to guide me in the answer. I am filing my taxes and as I am doing it they are asking for husband's SS#. He lives in Canada and obviously doesn't have one. I am filing "married separate" and they still want his SS#. What do I do?? Any suggestions? I was going to look for a thread that may help but thought I would try here first. Thanks.

Hi,

I guess the software you are using is insisting that you enter it? You could try entering all zeros perhaps, if it's just giving you an error but allowing you to continue - I would just ignore it. Other than that I don't have a suggestion - I did our returns manually, married filing separately, before we went to the U.S.

I must be way out of the loop here, but how do you file for this ITIN number? Im not familiar with the W7? Where do I get that and how long does it take to get this ITIN #?? And yes Trailmix, I did do it inline thru an online tax service. I tried putting in all zeros but it flagged it and I really dont want to submit it and then have errors or even get audited. UGH!! Tax season is here!!

All forms can be obtained on the IRS website. It took about a month to receive mine when I filed for it in 2006.

You don't really need an ITIN for married filing separately, you do need one if you want to file jointly.

What I did was just complete it, print it out and send it in - no problem. The software flags it for your information - the IRS won't see that and they won't care that you have not included a SIN or ITIN for him.

So whichever way you decide to do it, with or without, either will be accepted.

Actually this has been something I've been wondering about too. We want to file jointly as the difference in the tax refund is substantial. As long as my wife gets her SSN within a couple weeks of moving here (sometime around end of Feb) I guess we should be fine. Does anyone know if it's an issue that she'll have received her SSN after 2009?

No it's not, because as Mal mentioned, you could have been filing with an ITIN number already.

I have a couple of questions in anticipation of my interview (whenever that will be, April, May?)

1. If the interview is in April, what do we do about income tax filings, will he (USC) need to file and then I bring that to the interview?

2. My husband has far less vacation than I do and we are hoping to keep that for moving this summer, what's the general consensus about me going to this interview alone (we are less than 2 years married at this point).

Appreciate any thoughts on this, thanks in advance!!
