IR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

Wow, I am surfing the web as I fly across the US. I decided to login to see if anything has happened on 'the list' with little hope given that it is the weekend and scheduling seemed to be done for this month. HOLY SMOKES!!!!

It is looking like April for us, which couldn't be more perfect. I will have my US medical residency contract in hand (god willing as long as I match in March!) which is a legally binding employment agreement for 5-7 years. That should be good proof of domicile I will also potentially have the house sold and an offer on another one back in the US (wherever we match), and my children scheduled to enroll in their new school.

I was really worrying back in December. If our interview was delayed until July, I would have been facing moving to the US without my hubby and kids, and a lot of uncertainty.

Thank you to everyone for posting here, it has been so helpful and reassuring to see your posts! Even for us less active 'lurkers'.

This is my first post here on VJ but I have been looking on here VERY often for my unanswered questions and concerns. I must say that it has been VERY helpful and I am so thankful for everyone's input and knowledge!!

To my surprise, I looked on here last night and saw all the interviews scheduled for March. How exciting!! Congrats to you all!! I am hoping for an April interview as this wait is becoming daunting.

I do have a couple of questions for anyone that may be able to help. My husband has a British passport but has been a permanent resident of Canada for the past 16 years. I have been reading on here about the Embassy mailing back the passport?? Im confused about this. Do they keep their passport and mail it back? Where does it get mailed to? Also, if (and when!!) he gets his interview approved, how long does he have to enter the US? Sorry for all the questions but I have tried to find the answers out hereon VJ, but havn't had much luck. Thanks so much for your help and once again CONGRATS to all you March interviews. GOOD LUCK!!!

you provide them with a postage paid envelope, they mail you back the visa inside the passport to the person residing in Canada!!. One can always ask to pick it up in person that day or the next day, but that normally doesnt happen, but why not ask--all they can do is say no! one has up to 6 months to enter the USA and activate the visa!

They keep his passport after the interview so they can put the visa in it. They mail it back to his home address on file. I think that CR1's have the same time frame as K1's which is 6 months from being approved to enter the country. Others here can verify that or not. You also have to provide the expresspost mailer for them to ship it in.

As mentioned above the visa is good for 6 months, that is, he has 6 months to enter the US. After entering the US the green card will be sent to your current US address. Until that time, the visa stamp in the passport acts as a temporary green card allowing him to travel.

We are non EP people. We received our email for the interview couple weeks ago but havent gotten anything in the mail. Are we going to get anything in the mail or is the email all we need to take to the interview as confirmation?

The email will be enough.

I've heard of other people not getting a hard copy, and even more people receiving the hard copy three or more weeks after the emailed interview confirmation.

And yes...if they accept emailed letters from EP folks, I have no idea why they wouldn't accept an emailed letter from a non EP person.

What will happen in February , Second week , when they begin scheduling ? Will they schedule more interview for march or april ....

Only few of us are left .. I hope we all get interviews soon..

Unfortunately, I don't think ANY of us here can answer those questions with any kind of certainty.

I'd venture to guess that those of you who haven't received an email for an interview yet will be waiting until at least the second week of February...and possibly for an April interview date. But I really have no idea. That's just my guess.
