My husband always tells me not to waste my time on these things, maybe I really should listen.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Generalisations are dangerous here - certainly if it could be interpreted through them that people's relationship choices and decision-making are being called into question.

That's probably a line we don't want to cross.

I'll put myself out there - I didn't have any constraining issues in my case, but I wasn't sure of the ins and outs of this process. VJ and other online sites like it didn't have half the resources and information that they do now, and they certainly weren't as accessible.

My fiancee and I couldn't afford a lawyer either - we had to take the process a step at a time.

Some people's relationship choices and decision-making should be called into question. I'm just too nonchalant to do it myself.

You asked a question (in a public forum, after all), ;) I replied. That's how VJ works!

And if you think people don't research getting married to a foreigner & all the legal ####### entailed, I think you are very far off the mark.

No I don't think that. I do think that some people get engaged without being fully aware of all the factors that could potentially complicate their petition, and I can see how that could easily happen. Again there's a whole forum of questions that speak to that - questions that the instructions on the forms and the USCIS website don't fully cover.

I can't imagine how one can miss immigration issues when considering marriage to a foreign expatriate, unless all these folks are on vacation in Las Vegas, drunk, freshly tattooed, and having quickie weddings at an Elvis chapel.

Or ... well ... having enjoyment for the first time in a long time

Sorry ... I'll be good now ...

You whined to close it. Not me. 'Suggest its time for you to $hit or get off the pot ;)' - sound familiar?

Yes I did. Because it had lost direction and because of the aforementioned anger and indeed your continually pissy attitude. The argument was going nowhere - except for you telling everyone how to interpret your posts. You stopped 'participating' a long time ago.

How *do* you get up so high on that horse?

That doesn't make sense to me. If you are indifferent, why do you care if the relationship choices are questioned or not? Seriously, who are any of us to make that call?

Perhaps - but judgemental attitudes about other people's situations on an immigration forum are probably asking for trouble IMO. You already conceded that you don't see the need to look down on people for their choice of a partner, and that the difference in the way you look at it Vs. mine is likely a generational thing. Same decision, different rationale. I'm not 5 minutes from divorce...

My indifference doesn't mean they shouldn't be questioned. It just means I'm too indifferent to do it myself.

Any volunteers?

You really want to question people's relationship choices, on the internet? Pointless and stupid spring to mind.

She: Now that we're married engaged, sweetie, tell me, are you a criminal?

He: Yes, I've been meaning to tell you about all that, but we were too busy dating and falling in love.

That can happen.

I'm sure I've witnessed this scene on a Mexican novella.

Maybe so, but it wouldn't be the first time, afterall, humans are fallible. Where's your sense of adventure?
