I still have no idea how one really lives in the way described, a rigid adherence to a personal code that precludes sympathy for anyone who brakes this code. I imagine though one would certainly have to have a very tight curb on one's emotions.[/quote]

Of course you don't. You stated that a few pages back. I thought there was no more...?

As stated, I fully apologies if my comments were laid on a bit thick which was unnecessary.

And now, once again, you feel the need to dissect & criticize GEG's opinions. Yet, no one is doing it to yours? Hmmmm.

Oh, I am so sorry, I had no idea one wasn't allowed to make any reference to another person's posts at all. I also had no idea that Devilette was the moderator. I stand corrected and humbly apologise.

:bonk: don't let it happen again, otherwise we'll have to spray your purple biscuit with roundup.

In your view Devilette, if someone says they would never marry an illegal, how do you think you should go about avoiding that eventuality in real life? Really, I am curious, because I have no idea how one would screen people in order to ensure that this couldn't happen.

Hire a firm that specializes in pre-employment background checks...

Oh come on, now you're just being silly :P :P

I'm a visionary. We are always derided in our lifetimes!

You will see. Pre-date background checks will one day be de rigeur and they will name the process after the troll Himself.

call it "trolling for dates" maybe? :D

See post #508.

I personally got to know my husband very well before even getting engaged. We have no secrets. We researched legal options for me to stay in England (when my visa ran out) & then over here in America. All done legally. We had/have no desire to screw anything up that could potentially damage our futures.

Doing things illegally never even came into question. Nor would it.

I would have edited this but it was too late.

My interpretation of how one would go about avoiding making this mistake was clearly off the mark, hence your objection to my statement. I am therefore interested in how one goes about avoiding falling in love with someone who is an illegal alien or what one should do if one is unlucky enough to do so.

So, you are saying that people who fall in love with illegal aliens do not know their fiance's well enough? That they haven't been open and honest in their courtship?

In a nutshell, yes. I'm not saying you need to know on date #1, or even 5, but when you are considering marrying someone (esp. a foreigner), he!! yes you better not have any huge secrets like that. Those secrets affect the USC as well as the foreigner, legally & emotionally.

I knew many illegal Irish people in NY, it was no secret to anyone - they were upfront.

So, from this can I conclude that in your opinion, any one who has married an illegal alien should get a divorce? Or, if you discover that your fiance is an illegal alien you should cut and run because the resulting marriage will be a sham?

And these upfront illegal Irish people did they have relationships, and what was your opinion of anyone who had a relationship with them?

Does your opinion on illegals and relationships extend to those on overstays, or is that different, and if so, how is it different?

As mentioned there are plenty of instances in the immigration forums (certainly when I was applying for K-1) of people dealing with previous visa overstays, past criminal issues, or indeed non-criminal "Moral Turpitude" issues, sometimes several years prior to meeting their fiance. Many of those things aren't even an issue until you think about getting married and begin the US immigration process - I'd contend that its easy for a person's partner to be ignorant of something like that (and certainly if it was 10,15,20 years ago) because it isn't an issue until you start filing immigration paperwork, and get some idea of what is involved in the process.

Most of the standing advice involves being upfront and honest - with all of these things, including visa overstays, but that doesn't mean that you have to pack up bags and move back to your country (that isn't the only option for 'legal immigration') - nor do I ever remember a prevailing opinion being put about that those people were being irresponsible in their relationship choices.

So far, your responses to my questions do appear to portray a very clinical approach to relationships and a very rigid interpretation of love. That is of course, purely my opinion.

I did my damndest to not fall for homeboy for various reasons...his age, the fact that he was in a foreign country, the fact that it was a sticky situation to be fed by his mom and wooed by him, the fact that I was only to be in his village for three months.

Look where that got me!

OK, I THOUGHT we were having a rational discussion but judging by your black & white (and rude) questions, I'm done. I (nor anyone) should not need to answer how I/we feel about every damn thing involved with immigration, nor should it even be asked. Wwtf? Will you ask my salary next? Or how about my employer? What I ate for lunch - hey, it might have been touched by an illegal somewhere & then what?

Why do you insist on being the judge & jury about this?
