RenShirls29,

Have you and your fiance met in real during the last two years? Do you have proof of your being together?

I'm guessing YES, since you've made it to the interview process. The engagment ring is not a big problem. You could have him send you a copy of the receipt for the ring. And if they ask, just tell them the truth, that he is bringing it to you, in December.

Everything should be fine, relax and prepare for your interview.

Take care, and God Bless..

Not having a ring is no big deal. Many people opt to have wedding rings only.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

You don't need an engagement ring at the interview. An engagement ring isn't proof of a relationship. Enjoy it when you do get it, but don't sweat not having it for the interview.

The officer was very curious about Claudeth's ring and about our engagement. I went to visit her right after I mailed the petition so took the ring to her. She also showed him our little engagement party with her family and our friends.

Marlene was asked to show her engagement ring at the interview too. It is just one tiny bit of evidence regarding intent. Having one may strengthen your evidence, but not having one will not cause a denial.

They actually may check her finger and ask about a ring. "My fiance is bringing it in December." or "We aren't doing rings." are perfectly good answers. No worries.

I'm not sure where the impression that engagement rings are necessary keeps arising. There is no formal requirement for it, and in fact many cultures (such as FSU countries) usually don't even have engagement rings, although this is changing in the bigger cities as western cultures gain more influence. While a CO might express curiosity or interest, it would (IMO) be an abuse of authority to read anything into the lack of a ring. And since anyone can just throw a rock on their finger, I highly doubt it strengthens the impression of an ongoing relationship either.

A little off topic.

As a beautiful woman working as a waitress, my wife was getting hit on quite a bit because she didn't wear her rings to work. She didn't want them getting dirty or lost. It became such a bother for her, I suggested we buy a cheap ring for her to wear to work. Even the smallest cubic zirkonium looks like about a full carat, so now her customers think she's married to a real moneybags. The Chinese don't really wear rings either.

The ring is quite attractive. I think we paid about $6 for it.

That's such a thoughtful gesture. :)

To the OP - I highly doubt you'll get a denial because you're not wearing an engagement ring. Your explanation to the lack of it is reasonable and the consular officer should take it for what it is.

It is not important. I know some men that wait until the lady arrives to the States before presenting her a ring. Personally, my fiancée wanted to pick out her own in Russia during my last stay. But I know many that go to their interview ringless and it is not a problem.
