WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY APPROVED? WE WERE APPROVED BY DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY ON 7/26/06. THEN THE CASE WAS SENT TO CAIRO. THAT IS WERE THE INTERVIEW TOOK PLACE FOR MY SO. THAT WAS A YEAR AGO. WE WERE TOLD WE WOULD HEAR FROM THE EMBASSY IN ONE MONTH. BUT STILL WE ARE WAITING WITHOUT ANY WORD. THE APPROVAL FORM WAS A I-797C, NOTICE OF ACTION.

Have you contacted the embassy to see what happened? Ask over in the Middle East forum, they will probably have more experience

What I meant was, at the interview did they actually say, Congratulations, you have been approved.

If you say you have been approved then I have no idea why you would still be waiting a year after the interview to receive the K1 visa....

YES I HAVE CONTACTED THE EMBASSY SEVERAL TIMES AS HAS MY CONGRESSMAN. ALL THEY SAY IS THE CASE IS IN ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESS. THEY GIVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MAY MEAN.

Eeek...:o

Um...I'm so sorry.

That doesn't sound good. I really have no idea.

They never said you were approved or denied but they said they would contact you in a month and it's been a year?!?! Something is seriously messed up. Have you called them directly to talk to an actual person instead of just e-mailing? Your Congressman hasn't been able to help???

wow....

I would contact an immigration lawyer asap.

Best of luck to you

WELL I HAVE DONE ALL OF THIS. THEY WONT ANSWER ANY QUESTION BY PHONE. WHEN I WAS IN CAIRO IN JUNE THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME A APOINTMENT. AND I DID CONTACT ONE LAWYER. HE SWAID DTHERE WAS NOT ANYTHING HE COULD DO. MAYBE ITS TIME TO SEEK ANOTHER LAWYER.

I think so!

If I was in your shoes I would be completely devastated. The fact that they told you a month and it's been a year..I would be furious.

When you call and they say it's "in an administrative process" did you state to them that you were told a YEAR AGO that it would be a month and you would really like to know what the heck is going on?

Did your SO ask at the interview if they had been approved or denied? So confusing!

as I said in the other thread where you mentioned this, this is likely to be because you're going through Cairo... I don't know if anyone's been waiting quite as long as you, but I know a LOT of the petitioners with beneficiaries from Middle East / North Africa have to wait a long time after the interview... I strongly recommend you do some reading in the MENA forum; they'll have much more experience with your specific situation

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Good advice.

Plus, unfortunately, with Administrative Processing there is nothing ANYONE can do to help your situation. This typically means they are conducting additional background checks and they provide no timeframe for that. Sometimes AP is completed in weeks, sometimes in months, and as you are finiding out, it can take over a year. Its just so common in the MENA countries. Definitely check out that forum for additional assistance from those who have experienced this first hand.

That is so sad isn't it? WOW...

Deb and Ali, I wish you much luck and patience during this time.

I'll be joining you in AP/AR in Cairo in another week :(

No matter how long it lasts, I haven't heard of a case going through Cairo without it. I do think there might be a few people on the MENA threads with interviews in 2006, but I know there are also several from jan-march 2007 and later.

Keep hope, you aren't refused yet, and as long as the husband/SO isn't a terrorist  you will get the visa eventually (haven't heard of a case being refused after AP/AR, just really, really, long wait times)

Good Luck Deb and Ali  Hopefully you will get some good news soon...

There are many people waiting for over a year for their visa's after the interview due to administrative processing. Especially in the MENA arena. There is no one who can help you. You just have to wait like the rest of us. What they have to do is security checks and check names. Which is where I am at even before they send the file out now they do this. The FBI is far behind on name checks. As long as they dont send your file back from Cairo your in pretty good shape. Unfortunatly nobody can tell you how long you have to wait. Ive been waiting for 18 months now. Hopefully the new law will pass soon that they have to get these checks done faster well within 18 months. But with the government there are no guarantees. Good luck. Stay strong.
