I had my pirate wedding at a city park on the beach. Cost me $50.00! Would have been more if I wanted an alcohol permit but no one missed it in the end :D

Are you kidding me! Alcohol is the only reason I even go to weddings!

Damn straight Sarah and of course, cake :star::thumbs:

By the time the cake comes around I don't even know where I am anymore. ;)

 damn

J/K, sort of. I went to some fun wedding this summer! Finally my friends are starting to get married.

Also vineyards are reasonably priced. Thats where I am having mine.

The only thing that concerns me Missy, is that you have a guest list of 250+ people. It is going to be hard to keep the price down when it comes to per person pricing.

Is 10,000 your entire wedding budget? Or just your hall budget?

hall budget

Wow! Never thought about golf courses! Nice.

Our Yacht Club does a lot of weddings too. Cheaper than a hotel.

mmmmm....thanks for the great ideas guys. Good topic Missy!

chucky cheese is cheap :P

I think that we need to keep in mind the purpose of why we post responses to threads. Many of us would agree that if someone posts a question or ask for a response to issue/question, it is up to us as individuals to be mindful that our response is relevant and thoughtful. Thank you all for you suggestions. My budget is 10,000 dollars. I just received a quote back from a major hotel chain that gave me an estimate of $8000 for a grand ball room with buffet style dinning. If liquor is to be served....than the fee will increase.

My thing is why spend so much money when those funds could invested in a house, education, funds for children....

I just want to be reasonable. Someone posted something about a golf course.... I gotta look into that. Sounds decent....

yes and some of us need a sense of humor

Because celebrations are part of life, too. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with deciding you don't want a party, but there's nothing wrong with deciding that your wedding, a really big important event in your life, is worth some money, too. It's a balance. You shouldn't send yourself into the poor house.

That said, hotels screw you over every time and their food usually isn't all that hot. Buffets usually cost a little more than a sit-down dinner. In the scenario we priced out, the buffet would have been $52 a head and the sit-down came to $44. Not a big amount until you multiply it by the numbers of guests.

You can also do things like close the bar during dinner, or close it early (if you're having an open bar.) With $10K and 250 guests, that's $40 a person? That should be doable if you move away from the hotels. We found a caterer that had a private banquet hall for ours.

Are you kidding me! Alcohol is the only reason I even go to weddings!

We had to keep it a dry wedding in respect for my family. Alcohol has ruined lives in my family. My grandmother, who just passed away on 1 November was shot at point blank range in the face by her drunk husband right in front of their 3 very small children. When my uncle, who was maybe 7 at the time, tried to go help his mother his father aimed the rifle at him. She was 39, she survived and lived to be 76. She was the one who raised me.

After the ceremony was said and done the people who wanted a drink went to a pirate themed bar. I drank coke. No one on my side of the family went.

I wasn't just being a cheapass, the thought of alcohol with my family makes us sick.

I must say, 10K is gonna be tough. We got married 6 weeks ago and had about 280 guests. The main meal was priced at $27pp and childrens meals at $18pp, appitizers were $7pp.

250 adults - $6,750

30 kids - $540

Appitizers - $1960

We were really lucky with the bar, we got to bring our own booze and there was no corkage fee. We only paid $200 for the bartender for the entire night.

We were also lucky in the fact that we didnt have to pay tax or gratuity. We had it at a church banquet hall and I'm not sure how they get around that but I'm glad we didnt have to pay that.

We had to pay $45 service charge per table and a cake cutting fee of $0.50 per person. Our total cost was around $14K for the reception food, service charges, and booze.

VJ Hours - I am available M-F from 10am - 5pm PST. I will occasionaly put in some OT for a fairly good poo slinging thread or a donut.

Thanks...I know.........you are right....

Okay...I figured out how to make it worthwhile for my SO and my family. I will first have a reception dinner for 100. Then I will have a large wedding party with drinks and appetizers for the rest of the people. Yes.... that is what I will do. I can't put my self into debt because of a wedding.

Thanks guys....
