We inquire to SS local Office and nobody can give us the status of the SS number/Card application. Even in email inquiry and here is their reply:

Thank you for contacting the Social Security Administration.

We’re sorry, but we can’t estimate how long it may take to receive a Social Security card. We’re working harder than ever to protect you, prevent identity theft, and ensure the integrity of your Social Security Number. To do that, we may have to verify documents you present as proof of identity. How quickly we issue the card may depend on how quickly we can verify the documents.

Did anyone experienced this? :(:help:

The first week of Oct, my wife and I went into an SS Office. Me to replace my lost card, my wife to change to married name. I received my card in about 10 days, she's still waiting for her's. she's asking me to call Monday. looks like now I know the answer I'll get.

I had to have USCIS call SSA to finally get my wife and daughters SS cards.

What a hassle as the 2 agencies don't normally communicate with each other except by the SAVE program which breaks down now and then.

K1 denied, K3/K4, CR-1/CR-2, AOS, ROC, Adoption, US citizenship and dual citizenship

Two weeks after Claudeth arrived here we went to the SSA office and applied for her card. She received the card a week later. After we were married we tried to change her last name on the card but they told us they needed something from the USCIS in her new name. When she received her EAD we went back. It took about six weeks to get the new card with her married name. I hope this is helpful.

I decided not to wait for USCIS -since they are not, obviously, as efficient as my mother  - and walked in to a SSA office with my passport with the I-551 stamp and my Washington ID. Applied for a number, went back in 3 days to get the number on a printed paper; and the card was in our mailbox like 10 days later.

They said it will take 1-4 weeks for my SSN card to arrived because they need to verify something with my status from the DHS. In the system it shows that my EAD is in my maiden name while it is obviously on my married name already in the card. Weird but that's the way it is so i'll just have to wait. Anyway, they assigned me a # and gave me a letter that I can show to a prospect employer in case i wanted to work already. My daughter's SSN card arrived after 1 week of application.

My wife's arrived within a week of applying as well as my stepson's. It's a bit late for you, but the easiest way is to first apply for a SS# in your maiden name, prior to AOS and before your I-94 expires. Then apply for a new card with your married name once you have your marriage license. Because you applied with your married name, they have to do the extra verying of who you were with your maiden name and then your married name...in effect they are having to do 2 processes before issuing you a card, which is why the delay.

Yes I am still waiting for mine and it sucks.

I applied for it 25 September and still waiting for it :(

My problem was that I did not wait 2 weeks after entering the US,which you should do (did not know that then)

If you go to the SSN office earlier than that, they have to "do it manually" etc. which really sucks!!!

Anybody else out there that did not wait the 2 weeks,if so how long did it take until you had it???

The Immigration officer at POE in MIA told us that even though we had checked the SS box on the DS-230, that we should go right away to the SSA office. We did just that and went the next day, the lady told us that they needed to wait for Immigration to enter all his data in the system so that they could issue the card and that it would take between 2-4 weeks. We're on week 5 and still nothing. My husband called last week and they told him it wasn't 4 weeks, that it was actually 8 weeks.
