Meeting in a few days - but birth cert problem - Need advice please

Hey guys,

I have my K1 interview coming up on Tuesday. I have everything in order and ready to go, but I was reviewing the paperwork and made a discovery that made my heart jump. It appears that my birth certificate might not be adequate. I guess when I read "birth certificate" I just skipped over it because I already have one from when I was born. However I noticed that they want one that states BOTH my parents names. Mine doesn't, it just has my name.

I really don't know what to do. It takes 15 days to get a new "long version" of a birth certificate, and Im suppose to fly to Montreal on Tuesday. Will this totally mess up my interview? Will the make me fly back again?

I'm totally devastated that something so trivial could mean I get rejected - especially after all the though, work and money we've put into this application.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

-Andrew

Hey Andrew,

in my own experience, your problem isn't as big as it seems to be. When I had my interview last year in Germany, I did not know that I had to bring proof of my army service ... or maybe I just forgot. Anyhow, when the officer noticed that I didn't have that last document, she gave me a so called "Pending Worksheet" with a checklist, address, fax number etc. on it, but she still continued with the interview.

I was supposed to send them the missing document as soon as possible, by fax or email. So after I came back home I collected everything I needed and sent them a fax. Unfortunately for me, somebody at the consulate did put it on the wrong desk or so, because they couldn't find it after I called in order to make sure that they got it. So I sent it with a registered letter in order to get proof about the delivery.

But anyhow, after some more phone calls from my fiancee, I finally had my visa in hand. And what I'm trying to say with all that is, that you probably don't have to worry about your birth certificate. The worst thing that can happen is, that you have to wait some more days, before you have your visa in hand (depending how soon you can send them the "long" birth certificate). I just hope for you, that your consulate keeps better track of their paperwork, then my did. :D

Happy easter to you and good luck for your interview!

Hi Andrew,

The same thing happen to me and my fiance in Germany a few weeks ago. We did not have a birth certificate from my fiance's home country and we were given a Pending sheet with address and ETC... We were told to mail everything to them. We mailed everything to them a few weeks ago and now I'm making several calls and emails to request the status of our case. It seems this part is the worst part of the whole deal. My only advice is to submit a request for the long version of the birth certificate and when you return follow the instructions that you are given at the interview. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Please keep us posted on what they say about this at the interview as I have a problem with my long form birth cert. and it will take 8 weeks and a lot of $ to have it corrected. I'm still waiting for NOA2 on K3 visa so still have time because Mtl. is so slow, but I'll be curious as to what they have to say to you. Thanx.

Office of Reg. General also said it was unlikely they could expidite a change but I sent some proof I need it and asked them to do it anyway.
