 maybe, it is the wrong head?

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Well our engagement was in 3 steps.

1)I had been in the US for over 6 month, waiting for the renewal of my B2 visa so we could be together a bit longer. I was very stressed because of it.

Then on March 25th (a bit over a month since my b2 had expired and I was 'pending') we were chilling on the sofa and talking about the all what are we going to do? What are our options so I can stay. I told him again the various things I knew from spending so much time on VJ. He had been avoiding the subject a lot because he didn't want to have to think about it.\

Then he said:"Well let's just apply for a Fiance visa then."

I didn't believe him, I figured he was joking and told himso, he insited that he was serious. Since I still didn't believe him he stood up, went to the kitchen and came back with...

A paper ring he made (out of he things you use to tie bulk bags of food), he had even done a 'stone' on it. I looked at him and laughed. Then he said something like he promised me to ask me to marry him someday. I was still laughing but believing him now. He put the ring on the wrong finger, but that was ok.

We then decided we were going to apply to the k1 and get engaged and seriously decided to get married later.

We didn't tell anyone.

Not too long after that I got a job offer and had 2 interviews, the Cie was ready to get me a work visa and we were both very excited and abandoned the k1 idea.

2)On June 5th, the Cie calls me back, they can't get a work permit. I'm crying alone in the house. He is at work and won't be back until the next day. I call him, in tears, tell him what's going on and that we need to make a decision (I was supposed to go back to France in the middle of August). He comes back the next day and I tell him we need to talk about it. He is tired from work and doesn't want to, so I tell him "Fine bring the subject on yourself". Hours pass, nothing. I was very unhappy at that point, but I stayed stubborn and didn't bring the subject. Friday, nothing.

On Saturday, i can't stand it anymore. I'm pissed, I walk in the bathroom and confront him telling him I need to know what we are going to do.

The rest is a bit of a blur. I think he said something like "well I thought it was clear, we'll just get married', I only half registered... might have been distracted by the fact that he was naked and cover with soap I guess.. I felt better but still not 100% sure of what we were doing (yes I know I'm slow).

The next day in the car I told him: "So have we decided something or not, because I'm not really sure." He looks at me like I come from an other planet :"I thought it was clear, we are getting married."

"Oh".

So there it was decided...

Later that day I faced him and said "Well since you won't ask me I will ask you. Will you marry me?" He answered "maybe".

Days went by, we set a date (July 6th), called family and friends to let them know (the all planning was less than a month). We had a row at some point because I kept on telling him that I wanted him to ask me to marry him, he felt pressured. I ended up in tears and telling him I didn't give a s.hit about the ring and all that (he said he couldn't afford it) and all i wanted was him to ask me, just ask. He didn't.

3)July 5th, the day before the wedding. In the evening we met with Marjorie (my god sister and his cousin), Dam (my brother who came from France on supper short notice thanks to my family), Suz & Brent (his sister and brother-in-law).

They had been driving all day and were tired. We went to find a restaurant, a pizzaria, it was packed. We wrote our names on the waiting list and to kill time went to the bar right next door inside the same building. My now hubby wrote were to find us. Time went by, it was getting late, so we came by to the door of the restaurant. They said they called us and we were not there and that it was now 9pm and they were closing. We explained that our relatives drove all the way from Florida to be with us, hadn't had food, were tired and that we were getting married the next day. They said ok as long as we were supper quick to order.

So we came in, sat down, ordered quickly and had our nice pizza.

It was now the end of the meal. Everyone was ready, but Suz told us that Colt wasn't done with his beer and that we should wait a bit longer (she actually was not in the plot). And that's when Colt decided to start a speech. He thanked them for being there, and said something like we hadn't done anything normal in this wedding planning and that now in the presence of my brother, his cousin, his siter and his brother in law he wanted to do at least one thing according to the rule. I was wondering what he was going to do.

And then next thing I know, he has one knee on the floor, he is fumbling with his fabric glass case and retrives a ring. I probably looked like that  . He looked at me and said : "Would you be my wife?", I said "Of course" and hugged him, then he put the ring on the wrong finger (again) .

I later found out he had had the ring in his pocket for the past month pretty much. He had been about to ask me the previous day. We had been at our friends, outside, with a fire burning, watching the fireworks. (Much more romantic than a restaurant especially when I always said i didn't want a restaurant proposal)... but my brother passed out in the grass a beer in his hand (I have great pictures from it). So instead he decided to do it when the people we cared about were there.

So I can always blame it on my brother that I didn't got THE romantic moment.

By the way, on July 4th, the friends we were at... well he had a ring in his pocket too... He proposed a few days later when they were visiting family in Ohio.

Wow  That's a lot of excitement! Congratulations though

This is such a great thread :) Here's my engagement story:

I was visiting Ron in Vancouver. The morning after I arrived, he rolled over in bed and said, "When are we going to get engaged? I think we should get engaged soon". I about had a heart attack, because he had always said that he would never propose until we lived together for 6 months (not sure how he planned for THAT to happen since we were doing the long distance thing). I think my response was, Sure why not. Romantic, huh?

Later that day, we went to Metrotown Mall and decided while we were there to check out jewelry stores to see what kind of ring I might want. No plans to buy the ring then, just browse. Well, after several stores and numerous rings (diamonds and other stones) later .... we happened upon a gorgeous tanzanite ring. As soon as that was on my hand, we both looked at each other and said, that's the ring. Well, we left that jewelry store and ended up in a corner of the mall, debating whether we should buy the ring that day because it was one of a kind and we loved it. Long story short, we ended up deciding to get the ring. We put a rush on the sizing, because we were going to visit his family (who live on a small island off of Vancouver Island) and he wanted them to see the ring. I think he also wanted to show them proof .. because otherwise they would never believe that this confirmed bachelor was getting married!!! My guy had been free spirited and very into travel ... saving up money, then taking off months at a time to backpack through foreign countries.

Anyway, Ron wanted to propose to me by the ocean. On the day we got the ring back from being sized, we were due to take a ferry to visit his family. The ring was not in the store when it was supposed to be. As a result, we were running late and had to take the last ferry of the day and didn't have enough time to go to the beach that he had planned. I wouldn't wear the ring until he formally proposed, so he decided that he would have to propose on the ferry. Not what he wanted, but that was just the way it was working out. Well, his friend gave us a ride to the ferry terminal and we missed the ferry by 2 minutes!!! So, we ended up going to the beach.

He got down on one knee and was shaking madly. I was giggling at his nervousness (which I thought was quite sweet) and reminded him that he knew the answer would be yes. All I remember him saying was that I was the most beautiful girl in the world and please please please be his wife. There may have been other words, but I was shaking at that point!

So, that's our story!

There was no grand proposal. We had been friends for a long time before he started asking me out on dates and I kept refusing. One day he asked me outright why I wouldn't date him. I told him I didn't want to put our friendship at risk etc and most importantly I knew he was due to go home to the States eventually and I wasn't prepared to do a long distance relationship or tearful airport goodbyes.

He kind of looked confused and said "If we are together when I leave there is no way I would leave you, I would want you to come with me or I would stay here." A few weeks later in a club it came out that his birthday is on 12th March and mine the 14th.....So he said we should get married on the 13th...and I thought that was a great idea!

We got married a few years later..not on the 13th but we have great birthday celebrations anyway

nice!

My Husband (then fiance), surprised me for my 38th birthday and flew me to Honolulu. After getting soaked in the rain, on the way to an amazing dinner, we walked along the beach. He dropped to one knee, in front of a ton of people and proposed. We have been married almost 3 years now and it just keeps getting better. Last night I came home after a crazy week of working two jobs. The lights were dimmed, the table was beautifully set, candles and roses included and the house smelled delicious. My man came out of the kitchen dressed to kill and told me that he loved and appreciated me. Life doesn't get much better than this :)

not such a happy proposal...

my OH first visited in April this year, his visit was booked for 10 days...i got three weeks with him thanks to a meeting with a clydesdale and whitehaven general hospital!!

the day before he was due to leave, i decided the way we would take our minds off the parting we would go horse riding in the lake district, not any old horses but clydesdales, i had watched these horses journey on tv from the isle of skye to set up their new home in millom.

the day was the only day of dans trip that it never rained, a bit windy but we felt these horses were sound and sure footed, my horse was called lugsy, he held his ears down and was only thinking of getting back to the field to go to sleep...dans we niknamed killer...though we felt safe...everything was perfect, we set out across the fields and taking in the beautiful scenery, shooting photographs and having a giggle, then i realised that the horses weren't as sure footed as we first expected, freaking at bags blowing in the hedgerows and caged magpies on the path (no idea why they were caged)

about three fields in from the nearest road the guy in charge asked if we wanted to canter, neither of us fancied this and were quite happy plodding along, though he started to trot and our horses decided this was a good idea, dans horse didnt, he wanted to bolt and didnt take instruction well...freaking out and tossing dan to the floor, the leader just stood there and his 'assistant' just sat on her horse...i flew off my horse to see if dan was ok and got no help from the two who were supposed to be first aid trained, dan had completly shattered his wrist and hurt his back, while the guy was on the phone to his boss (not the ambulance)

while dan was on the floor realling in pain he asked me to marry him, i was like...of course...you daft bat...but you didnt have to jump off the horse to ask me! trying to keep his spirits up as we waited for the ambulance...which never arrived as it was never called, instead the boss arrived with his landrover and they bundled dan and myself into it, the journey across the fields were bad enough for me, for dan it must have been horendous! this i thought was why the ambulance never arrived! i assumed it would be waiting for us to get out onto the road...or even the farm! nope...no ambulance to be seen!

back at the stables, dan was in agony and the boss and his wife were only bothered about him signing the uncompleted accident form, i was fuming and all i wanted was to get him to the hospital safely and have him checked out, we drove through the lakes, me stuffing cigarettes into his mouth to keep him distracted (i know, not a good idea but have you ever driven on the A595??) oh, they still asked for the £90 for the ride!

at whitehaven general and got him booked in, his wrist and back xrayed, he had fractured a vertebrae and broken all the bones which joined his hand to his wrist...they plastered him up and put him on ward...the weekend was spent waiting for the back specialist to arrive, he said dan was very lucky, the accident could have paralised him, the vertebrae wasnt compleatly fractured. surgery was carried out on his wrist on sunday (the accident happened on friday) three wires holding his fingers and wrist in place.

he was in hospital until wednesday and wasnt allowed to fly for another week...the nurses will never forget the yank who broke his back on a clydesdale...they couldnt get enough of his humour!! lol

the guy who owns the horses visited dan while he was in hospital, bringing with him the now completed accident form, we waited for him to leave before looking at what they had written, no mention of dans back injury...no mention of the horses freaking at things...no mention of no ambulance called, except that we never requested one when we did...!!

thanks to continental airlines being such nice people we got him booked on a flight home.

looking back on it, it was an awful thing to happen and i really wish we went white water rafting instead, we giggle about it now, but we still cannot believe the behaviour of the stable owners and staff...the total lack of help and the way they were only interested in protecting themselves when it came to the accident form.

he has visited twice since...avoiding horseriding and extreme sports...lol...we will save those for when i am where i am supposed to be, instead we have to suffice with the safe world of secondlife where we spend all our time together.

i wish they would hurry up and sort my visa!!

thank god for technology!
