I for one would be extremely pi$$ed if I got pulled for something as simple as not wearing my seat belt and was asked my immigration status.

Let's see...you're not pissed off if they ask for your license for driving without a belt, but the sky is falling on your head if you are asked your residency status on the same traffic stop. You better not travel in the USA near the border because that is exactly what happens at interior US Border Patrol checkpoints well past the border in Texas.

As for me...I'm more pissed off that there are 20 million illegal aliens in my country with more arriving every day and nobody has the nuts to do anything about it. Nothing but "poor me" I live in a police state stories.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

not when we've had this discussion & variations of this discussion countless times, & you still don't have a clue...others don't agree w/ you.

I don't recall saying that anyone did or had to.

Nor do I remember having this discussion, or any variant of it with you before. At all actually - but there you go...

#6 you're in every illegal immigration thread spewing the same holier than thou, moral superiority verbal diarrhea over & over again.

Steven: Just let it go. They are so blinded by the "let's ship all their illegal @sses back" that they can't see the bigger picture. I'm just sitting here thinking to myself. These are all supposed to be reasonably intelligent people. How in the heck are they missing this? It's not about the fact that we want illegals to have preferential treatment. It's that we can see how this might hurt other immigrants and USC's that might look "illegal". And for everyone who says, "are you insinuating they will racial profile?" Hell yeah that's what I'm insinuating. It's happening every day. You're crazy if you think it doesn't. I for one would be extremely pi$$ed if I got pulled for something as simple as not wearing my seat belt and was asked my immigration status.

Thanks. I know it is extremely frustrating and feels like an exercise of futility.

I don't know what it's going to take to get them to realize how these laws are going to adversely affect everyone going through the immigration process.

Actually, that happens to Jinky on a daily basis.

Perhaps. But if the alternative is to be an angry xenophobe who thinks that autocratic policies that tend to bring out institutional racism on the part of the authorities are a good idea - then I know what and where I'd rather be ;)

As to the bolded - well that simply isn't true. Relatively speaking - I rarely post on the subject.

You may accept the loss of personal freedoms for 'the greater good' but most people aren't that keen on th idea...I wonder why?

IMO & the state of Oklahomas. showing ID doesn't quite count as a loss of personal freedoms.

What does, in "your opinion"?

Considering that I'm blond with blue eyes even if I did live on the border, I doubt I'd get asked anyway. My brother on the other hand, who looks just as Mexican as Javier, probably would. And yeah, he'd get pissed. If he were breaking the law and not wearing his seat belt, I doubt he'd get very upset if they asked for his DL. He's not breaking any laws by being in the US since he's a USC, therefore, he'd be pretty upset if asked his immigration status.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

Which brings us full circle. You don't think having to establish your legality is a problem, because you are not constantly required to do so. Some people are, thanks to the non existent "racial profiling" that goes on.

slippery slope.....

Look, am I happy that there are people here illegally? No, not really. Do I wish law enforcement got their butts in gear and do what they were supposed to do before this law had to come to pass? Heck yes.
