My brother's wife is bringing our family's first grandchild into the world today. She went to the hospital at 730am to be induced into labor. Any idea when the kid will show up? I know it totally varies by person. But after how long of inducing do they just say, all right C Section!

my sis-in law went through that...

they induced her in the morning and then after awhile they sent her home and she came back later in the afternoon... they finally did a c-section around 11pm because of her high blood pressure...

When I had my first born son........who weighed a whopping 10 lbs and 2 oz......they had broke my water and induced me around 6am that morning and I was not taken into surgery for a C-section....when they realized he was too darn big.......until 5pm that night. He was born just after 6pm.

So all in all for myself it was a 12 hour long haul.......horrible.......they say when you are induced it is alot worse then if you went on your own (labor pains that is).......I thought the whole process sucked LOL.

But it must not have been that bad.........as I had a total of 4 children LOL with the largest one weighing 10 lbs 11 oz born 3 weeks early......

They had induced labor with pitosin (I think thats what they called it) and my then wife had never quite dialated enough. So they gave her about three more doses of about 2-3 hour intervals (dont remember exactly, was 17 years ago) because she would just not dialate enough although she had strong contractions. One of the monitors that monitors the baby was not working properly and they found that my daughter was actually going through a lot of stress because of the induced contractions. so they stopped inducing labor and did a semi-emergency Cesarian before my now healthy daugher would be in danger. The whole thing lasted about 20 hours I believe. Good luck to your brother, his wife and your new neice/ nephew to be.

10Yr GC arrived 07/02/09 - Naturalization is next

My water broke but I wasn't dilating yet. So they induced labor at 7 a.m. It was awful as I was already in dry labor .... the whole day. Finally, at around midnight, the doctor said that I was dilated enough to be taken to the delivery room. Delivered my beautiful baby boy at 1 a.m.

Now I remember why I only have one child

Funny to see this topic... yesterday was my oldest daughter's 16th birthday and we watched the videotape of her birth last night at her birth time: 10:54pm.

I had pre-term labor for the last 4 months of that pregnancy, and I wasn't feeling too well on Halloween. The next day, at my scheduled checkup (11am), the doc discovered that my I'd lost my muscous plug... she wouldn't let me go home. I had to go straight to the hospital. They induced at 1pm and she was born at 10:54pm. Thought it would be faster. I was dilating but not effacing, so I had to have a few doses of Pitosin to get things going. That was discouraging, since I'd already HAD 4 months of contractions...

She was due on 11/7 and arrived on 11/1... thankfully NOT on Halloween. My other daughter was born on 2/2, so if I'd had another, the pressure would have been on for a 3/3 :)

Wonder if epidurals are standard anymore... I didn't have any drugs (other than Pitosin) for either of my births.
