Does it matter which one (EAD or SSN) you get first?

jechancolvr,

I don't believe it matters - you'll, of course, need both to work. I believe the SS Card you'd get would still say "Not valid for work without DHS authorization" whether applied for before or after receiving EAD.

(Am of course assuming a lot about your situation but that's essentially the answer.)

Depends on your status.. For a K-3 you first need to have the EAD card before you are eligible for the SSN. For a K-1 it doesn't matter. For a K-1 up until the 76th day after entry only the I-94 is needed to be assigned an SSN After the 76th day the EAD or I-551 is needed.

Or on VWP and applying for AOS here will also have to wait for the EAD.

I 130 & I129F (K3) and AOS info in timeline

We went to SSA for Claudeth's SSN two weeks after she arrived. It came a week later. About a month after we were married we sent in the AOS and EAD petitions.
