It's 15 days now since I activated my K-1 visa and entered the US. We got married 4 days later (just a small wedding with a few family members present), went on a short honeymoon, and now we're settling into life as a married couple in the US. Today I got 3 certified copies of our marriage license. Next on the list is applying for a SSN and a US driver's license, and sending off the AOS package.

So far, it isn't much different from the 2-month stretches we spent together before we were married. We're both trying to remember to think in terms of "our" rather than "my," and it's an adjustment to make financial and other decisions together. But it's good. :) And there's a tremendous feeling of relief knowing that my life is now in one place now instead of two and we don't don't need to worry any more about the K-1 being approved. Sometimes it felt like a dream that would never really happen, but some dreams do come true. (L)

Here's my question. On the back of my I-94 is "EMPLOYMENT AUTH." stamped in red. I just noticed it today. I was going to ask about an EAD stamp at the POE, but I forgot, and afterwards I figured it probably didn't matter because other VJers have said that Vancouver doesn't give out the EAD stamp. But what does that stamp mean? Could it be the EAD stamp that we all covet, or is it something else?

That does sound like the temporary EAD stamp. If you got it at YVR, lucky you! I asked the POE officer and he told me they weren't issuing them...

Glad to hear you're having a good time. Congratulations on the wedding! :D

Toronto has US Immigration at their airport so you'll be activating your K-1 at that post. Sorry you won't get the stamp there.

vanee....sounds like that's what you have.

Congratulations and best wishes on your marriage! Pictures please :)

Thanks for the congratulations, everyone. :)

I was lucky to have a particularly helpful officer process my K-1. He photocopied my vaccination record for me and put his name, work number, and signature on the back of it because he said that he used to work in the department where I'll need that and it can be a hassle to get a copy of it, or something like that. I was going to ask about the employment authorization stamp but forgot to, but it appears that his "extra step" approach took care of that. I can hardly believe my luck.

Maybe this officer is new at YVR. I don't know, but I hope other VJers get him too. :)

I just went and checked mine. I have nothing stamped on the back. I did ask about the stamp and HE told me as soon as I get over, get me SSN (according to him I could get the next day) and I can start working right away....*RME* terrible when we know more. Or should I just play stupid and go by what I was told :innocent:

What if I have him fly from Thunder Bay to Minneapolis, to Chicago? Any difference there?

Yes, he would then enter Immigration from the US. I went through Minneapolis, but there was no stamp there. I don't know about Chicago either. I said earlier that you wouldn't get a stamp, however I shouldn't have said that, since I'm sure that we didn't know earlier that Vancouver POE gave a stamp either. It's so confusing, sometimes it seems like different POE's give it, sometimes it's just the different CO's. Sorry if I misled you.

No problem, I appreciate the feedback either way. Is there a current list going which states which POE's are successful in giving an EAD stamp?
