Hello everyone,

I am a 21 year old female currently residing in Spokane, WA.

This is going to sound like wishful thinking, and I'm sure you all have heard this story at one time or another, but I want to get residency in Canada.

Here's the problem: For the past 5 years I have been bed-ridden. I have had no energy to go to school to learn a Skill or Trade that is considered a necessity in Canada. Now that I am on my feet and working again [i'm a business/sales consultant], I can honestly say I am nooooooooooowhere near the $300,000 Canada requires to move.

I have been looking for work in Canada, since it'd be easiest to get a Visa that way, but with no special skills to show for, no one wants to hire a girl in the US that has no home to go to in Canada, and I don't plan on getting married for the sole sake of being able to gain residency in that country.

So, can anyone please send me some creative suggestions? Has anyone been in this situation and succeeded?

Thank you all for your time.

Best wishes,

-The Dreamer ;)

I think you're out of options for being able to live there (actually getting permanent residency status is a whole other issue).

Really there are only a few options to be able to live in any country: work, school, entrepreneur/investor, or family-based immigration.

Here is the test for skilled workers immigration into Canada: test. You don't need to have $300k for that, but it does require that you have adequate funds to support yourself while you look for a job after you land. I heard that the process can take up to 5 years to complete.

Here is a link to a forum that centers around skilled worker immigration in Canada: forum

My blog

Thank you everyone.

I tried to take the Skilled Workers test... Unfortunately, I don't apply for anything there.

I think I'll try the school idea - does it really work? Can I try learning a skilled trade there to stay?

What is the humanitarian/compassion option that I've heard people filing for?

I have wanted to live in Canada since I was 5. It's just so beautiful, and a few of my best friends live in Calgary - there's a magnetic pull. Unfortunately, contracting a chronic illness that knocked me out of work and school [and drained my funds completely] ripped me out of that option - I wanted to be in Canada by this time in my life. It's funny, because when people see what I look like and hear the way I talk, they frequently ask if I am Canadian visiting the US.

I was born and raised in San Diego, and I have lived there up until two weeks ago when I decided to move to Spokane to be closer to Canada [That's devotion, hey?] Extra incentive.

Anyone have an idea for a business I can start overnight? :jest: [i hope someone seriously responds to that. LOL]

I would suggest studying the trades.. Carpentry esp.. I know they are hurting for skilled tradesmen in Canada.. or Nursing.. Kinda different levels of the spectrum, but they need 'em.

Again, thank you everyone, you are all so helpful.

What about being a Naturopath? Is that a demanded profession?

Mine on PEI is book solid.. very hard to get an appointment..

However if you are looking to be in AB to be near your friends might want to check on where the schools are.. looks like the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine is in Toronto.

Excuse my ignorance, but, PEI?

Thank you! I will look at that school. Do you think when I obtained a license they'd allow me to stay in Canada? Or is that skill not in high enough demand?
