Just for the record, I did work the extra hour and it wasn't OT, or did I even get paid for it :( Their reasoning is that when spring comes around I get the hour back...well what if I'm off that day or not even on midnights anymore?? Then I just got royally screwed out of an hour by the city, hehe.

It's an antiquated system.

It can't be that antiquated, a good portion of the world uses the system and it really does conserve energy.

I think it's been proven time and time again that it doesn't save energy. Tonight, it was dark enough by the time we ate supper, to have the lights on. We didn't normally need the lights on this early in the evening. I know it's going to be lighter by an hour earlier in the morning, but we're up at 5:00 a.m. to get to work, so 5:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. ...it really doesn't matter.

I also read in the paper today something about 200 more pedestrians die from being hit by a car after the time changes (fall back).

"However, Daylight Saving Time does save energy. Studies done by the U.S. Department of Transportation show that Daylight Saving Time trims the entire country's electricity usage by a small but significant amount, about one percent each day, because less electricity is used for lighting and appliances. Similarly, in New Zealand, power companies have found that power usage decreases 3.5 percent when daylight saving starts. In the first week, peak evening consumption commonly drops around five percent." http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/c.html

The amount saved is small, but there is conservation.

i think it's a good idea just for the fact kids have daylight to go to school in and back home.

The amount saved is small, but there is conservation.

So we use more energy when we return to Standard Time...

This topic is SO funny. It's been discussed so much. Energy saver, non-energy saver; farmers want it, farmers hate it. Comes up twice a year! I've seen the historical reasons why this was started. That's enough for me to have an opinion that it's annoying and unneccessary.
