if you're in southern IL I don't know how far you are from Evansville, IN but there is a place here called The Pub and I've been told theyhave good fish and chips also there is an Irish pub here at the casino called Ri Ra's I've been told they have amazing fish & chips but I haven't tried either. I know it's staffed with actual irish people not americans so it might be something to try

hee hee! And if your hubby likes any kind of English footie...OMG...they show it ALL.

There is NOTHING wrong with 2 days worth of Fish n chips.... :D The only thing about the Elephant & Castle is that it's a bit more Americanized...trying to look like an English pub. However, I've had their F&C and it's great! The Globe like I said is run by Brit expats...they ARE an English pub catering firstly to expats and secondly to us yanks... LOL

Yay...come to Chicago!!!! Hubster and I would gladly meetup with anyone at the Elephant & Castle, Duke of Perth OR hubster's favorite place... The Globe Pub http://www.theglobepub.com/food_drink.shtml. Check out their menu...look for the "traditional fare" section of the menu for all the GOOD STUFF!

mmmmmmmmm, fish n' chips....!!!

Might have to pull hubby's arm a bit and make the effort!

Your right Frances........sometimes the English Pubs over here become a bit too as you called it "Americanized".....lol. But at least they still have some of the traditional British stuff as well.

I do know there is and English Pub/Inn in St Louis called the Cheshire Lodge/Inn. Talk about a traditional looking atmospher lol......it makes you think you are walking straight into a Pub in England. They do have guestrooms as well.........and OH MY GAWD check out their Fantasy Rooms LOL. Those are something else as well..........very expensive (well to me it is anyway lol) and you have to book months ahead of time in order to get a Fantasy Room.

I havent come across anyone who has very visited there for Lodging or the Foxs and Hounds Pub. Looks like they have some English menu; however,

Fish N Chips unfortunately is not one of them LOL.....or I would have already been there in a heart beat....lol

Anyway, check out their website and those Fantasy Rooms.......maybe book yourself a lovely sexy getaway.........hehehe...... :P

Actually, hubster and I have a romantic getaway planned for next weekend at a place I'd consider comparable to this place, similar features...and we only have to go a couple of hours into Wisconsin... OH GOD I can't wait for our weekend away!!!!!

Seriously though, if you do get up to Chicago, shoot me a pm if you are interested in meeting up at the Globe. We are always looking for a reason to go there... :D
