The judge who sued his dry cleaner for $54 million in a dispute over a pair pants got a big kick in the pants by losing his job yesterday.

Roy L. Pearson Jr. has been ordered to vacate his offices in the nation's capital, sources told the Washington Post.

A judicial committee said it reviewed Pearson's history of decisions and audiotapes of proceedings over which he presided and found he did not demonstrate "appropriate judgment and judicial temperament," the anonymous source said.

Pearson also was reportedly criticized for displaying a "combative" nature with supervisors and colleagues and for failing to comply with policies in drafting opinions.

The Post reports the Commission on Selection and Tenure of Administrative Law Judges first notified Pearson in August that it might not reappoint him, several weeks after he lost his civil suit against the dry cleaners.

Pearson gained international notoriety this year when he claimed the owners of Custom Cleaners in Washington, D.C., lost a pair of pants he brought in for $10.50 worth of alterations.

Media from as far away as South Korea covered the $54 million claim, as the owners of the cleaners, Soo Chung and her family, were of Korean ethnicity.

In June, a D.C. Superior Court judge ruled in favor of the Chungs.
