Okay, I know this will seem like a dreadfully stupid question, but is AR a given with every ME/NA visa? IF they put you on AR, do they notify you of such as opposed to the standard administrative processing? As you know, we received the 221g so I could provide a copy of my lease, but nothing at all was said about "AR". I'm assuming we are on it, but ... well you know the standard head blah blah going on.

And how many times emailing the Embassy is "too much" if they are not responding?

(Sorry guys, I'm having a head-spinning day.)

In Morocco, they give you a letter and it specifies exactly what type of 221(g) you have been issued, whether it be for Administrative Review, further evidence, your case has been returned, etc.

Does anyone know if this is standard for the 221g for all of the Embassies? The problem is my darlin isn't accustomed to American bureaucracy and "paperwork" and its difficult to get the exact info from him. I appreciate your info, thank you.

Jean all males coming from the T countries have some type of AR. I think since I started my journey only one man did not get any type of AR that I am aware of. It is just a part of the visa process for persons coming from these parts of the world. Tell him that is is normal and hopefully you will have the visa in hand soon.

Mary

Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.

And they don't always give you a paper that says it. Ahmed didn't get a paper after his interview and he was told his passport would be returned to him in 10 days . . . . that was a looooooooong 10 days since it turned into 4 1/2 months. They never said anything to him other than they are waiting for whatever to be finished. Seriously, I emailed them and they told me they were waiting on the administrative check to be finished at the Department of State before they can finish processing his application. When I called the DOS, they say that Cairo requested a security clearance for him (this was one week after his interview). From what other ppl have said, it all sounded like AR to me . . . but no paper was given to Ahmed. We didn't have any 221g or request for more information or a home visit in Cairo and Ahmed has an easy, easy, easy interview . . from what I could gather from him, he didn't give them fingerprints or sign anything. But I think maybe he was too excited about the interview being easy to really remember everything that happened in the aftermath . . . other than he paid his $30 for courier company (the infamous TNT, who really know nothing) to deliver his passport back to him. And I kept asking him questions like "did they say you were approved?" hahahaha, he said they didn't even tell him that . . . so that caused a lot of anxiety on his part as the wait did get a little long. I just knew that he would get the visa, but how long to wait on the AR (or AP or whatever they want to call it because it seemed to have different names at times) was the prob . . . and it makes it hard to plan anything until you know you have that visa in hand. Now i am waiting on him to finish his business in Cairo so we can book that flight.

How did you know he would be getting his visa? Mohammed asked at his interview (probably a dozen times... hahaha) and all the CO would say is "send us the lease and we will decide." GAAAAHHHH. I tell Mohammed to assume he will be approved until told otherwise, but some days I don't feel so confident. I hate to speculate but how in the heck do you just sit floating in mid air not knowing if you are sinking or swimming?

The only indication that I had that he would be getting the visa (pending the security clearance bit) was that they told him to leave his passport. Usually (from what other ppl have reported regarding various countries/consulates) this means that he will be getting the visa because they only ask someone to leave it if they think they will be attaching the visa then sending it back. Now that might now always be the case, but i talked to someone that was interviewed in Cairo that was heartbroken because he was the only person that was given back his passport of those that were there in the room at that time. This particular person hadn't been denied a visa just yet, but i haven't talked to him in a few weeks . . . he is having to go through more investigations and i think he might have gotten a 221g paper.

OK, I need to go plant something in my garden!!!

It is definitely gardening weather!!!!!

I feel like I'm just down right annoying today. I hate days like this. I'm going to pester you some more because you went through Egypt too. Mohammed sent his passport in with his packet of information (police reports, forms, medical, proof, etc.) as requested and it has not as yet been returned or even mentioned. Now I'm really confused. *slamming her head on her desk*

I am just a big dork. It's been one week since we sent the papers in and its starting to bug me already. Hahaha. (I know you all understand.) Anybody???

Tamer also had several weeks (5 i think) of administrative review. Here's the email exchange I had with the consulate. They called it an "administrative check," although I'm guessing it's the same thing as AR.

Dear Madam,

The administrative check is a type of security clearance that is mandatory. However, the process for x has been completed at the Department of State. The Consular Officer will review his case and issue his visa shortly.

Consular Staff

Good evening:

What exactly is the administrative check? I have a few books on the visa

process none of them mention this step. My fiance is also wondering when he

will get his passport back and if we can have an estimate on how much longer

the processing will take?

Thank you,

x

once you turn in the information the embassy asked for the AR/AP. process will start. this process depending on the embassy can last

19 days to 2 years.

Note * AP/AR are 2 diffrent things.

sometimes you are placed on AP followed by AR.

Thank you for sharing that. It helps me a bit. I'm just wondering... what exactly IS the difference between AP and AR. I am assuming AR is when they are addressing "red flags" and AP is simply completing the checks???

The consulate did send me an email that said "administrative check" . . . Here is their first response to me:

Dear Madam,

Thank you for your e-mail message.

Mr. Mostafa's case is pending an administrative check conducted at the Department of State in Washington. We are unable to process his case any further until this check is completed.

Regards,

Consular Staff

Then their next response in December (i graduated from Madam to Sir) . . notice this one says administrative process, LOL:

Dear Sir,

Thank you for your email. His case still under administrative process, once we finish our procedures, we will notify you.

Regards,

Consular Staff

Now I need to leave for an appointment . . more later.

Khallid was given the paper (221g) when his interview was over. On the bottom of the page the is an area checked that said administrative process.

Was that the only thing that was checked? I asked Moh and he swears the only thing they marked was that they needed to see a copy of my lease. I told him to bring the paper with him tomorrow so we can check it again together. This is what I was wondering.

Thanks darlin! AND YOU HANG IN THERE. One day over and another day closer!
