OK, from the reponses I have seen from people who actually know people there looks like a common theme here. All of those people are loosing their jobs to people who will do it for less money. It is not that an employer is not offering the job to the USC, it is the USC not willing to do the job at the rate of pay being offered for the position....so...illegals are indeed doing the jobs that Americans do not want.

The truth of the matter is that even if these illegals came here legally, they would still be underbidding those guys who lost their jobs. They would still be living 12 people to an apartment and sending the money home. I will concede that the bidding gap would close to a degree, but a single man trying to mow yards for a living is not going to be able to compete with a person whose bills are 1/ 12th of his.

And even a greater truth, is there is not 20 million USC's that are out of work and looking to mow grass for a living.

I'm bloody British and I have problems getting understood sometimes. My "favourite" is when I'm asked what dressing I would like on my salad. If I ask for ranch the average server thinks I'm saying "raunch". I don't think Kraft make a Raunchy Dressing, perhaps there is a potential market there for it. *ponders*

Oh god, I have that problem too!! Waitressing is really not the job for someone who can't pronounce the word 'ranch' in a way that people can actually understand. I dread having to say that word! :crying: (Never occurred to me that anyone thought I was saying 'raunch', mind you!! ).

How's it going, btw? :D

Not bad, thankyouverymuch!! All that running around and being on my feet alllll day long came as something of a shock after so many months on the sofa, but I'm getting used to it now, and the exercise can't be doing me any harm. And so as not to derail the thread, I will just say that 'Sending A Long-Overdue PM to Mags' is on FeatherB's List Of Things To Do Today. Will ramble at greater length then! :P

2005 - We met

2006 - Filed I-129F

2007 - K-1 issued, moved to US, completed AOS (a busy year, immigration-wise)

2009 - Conditions lifted

2010 - Will be naturalising. Buh-bye, USCIS! smile.png

I'm genuinely surprised at some people's resistance to stay on topic. Maybe my perspective is too simple but this topic can go two ways:

a ) Data will show that VJ members don't know anybody whose job has been taken by an illegal alien; or

b ) Data will show that VJ members have actually encountered/know people whose jobs have been taken by an illegal alien.

I cannot see why this would be considered as an illegal immigrant cheer-leading thread.

Thanks EAU, I thought the thread topic was pretty straight forward as well.

all you have proven is....you don't want to hear anything other than agreement w/ what you have to say & this is another illegal immigrant cheerleading thread.

ROTFLMAO Pot meet Kettle !!!

actually....no suprise...but you're WRONG again. if you'll look at my friends list, some of those people (fancy & almaty) & myself don't agree on many issues at all. yet i do have great respect for these people and value their opinions & views as well as consider them to be friends.

As far as I'm aware there is not an endless supply of visa's available for foreigners coming here to mow lawns. So with fewer workers available wages would probably go up. How much is anyone's guess but that's not the point. The point is that people do lose jobs because of illegals working for sub-standard wages.

Employers hiring workers from day labor centers often will avoid legal standards, pay less than the minimum wage, fail to withhold salary for taxes, and avoid paying into the unemployment fund and other expenses. Those employers illegally cut the costs of employment and, in the process, decrease the job opportunities for qualified workers who may be unemployed, but who are unwilling to work for cash payments under the table. As a result of this process, the wages that a qualified worker may earn become depressed towards the wages that the illegal workers are willing to accept. The effect of the day labor centers is, therefore, to benefit the illegal alien workers and the employers who are breaking the law in hiring them, while at the same time undercutting the earning potential and opportunities for some of the country’s most needy workers. It also increases the burden on taxpayers because of the cost of general assistance provided to the out-of-work residents.

[i have never trashed any american that was not garbage to begin with.

Seems to conflict a bit with the member name you've chosen for this site...

Even gentlemen must engage in unseemly behaviour when they combat those who are not. A gentleman defendign a lady's honor is "trashing someone who is garbage" would you not agree?

No I would not. You are making yourself judge and jury over the character of someone else. Perhaps it's your choice of the word 'garbage', but I do not consider human beings 'garbage', regardless of their lifestyle or whatever poor choices they may have made/are making.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

It is my belief that you have no desire to hear anything other than agreement with the potition you have taken. I spent last night going through this forum and it is plainly obvious that there is an anti-immigration crowd here, here of all places! And I truely mean anti-immigration, not anti-illegal immigration. This handful of people are in no way interested in talking about this topic, they attack any person who does not conform to their belief. These people are nothing but haters and do not care to discuss the issue.

Just take a look at this thread. I ask a simple question, Tell me about people you know who have lost jobs, and look at the response...same few people come out to derail and attack the person who is in opposition to them. THAT, my friend, is an anti-immigration crowd.

Since when does disagreement = anti-immigration?

I have seen quite a bit of human garbage. Do a search on pedophiles if you need some pictures of human garbage.

who said it does? Certainly not me.

I'm genuinely surprised at some people's resistance to stay on topic. [snip]

I think it can be explained by the simple fact that no one here is being paid to stay on topic. I think if we were salaried employees then members would be less inclined to to treat it lightly. As well, conversations naturally branch off into other areas of interest so it's really not that surprising. :)

As an observation -- and not directed at you, Eau_Xplain -- it's kind of hard to stay on topic when the OP has deliberately baited the audience; doesn't stand up to his moniker (a "gentleman" is a civilized, educated, sensitive, or well-mannered man); and is steadfastly hostile.

Nessa's joke was FUNNY. It reminded me of Agador in The Birdcage. Hank Azaria was brilliant in creating a character who was not only funny, but endearing.

Sometimes people take life so seriously. Life is FUN. I just wish people could enjoy it.
