I have to disagree..... I thought it was so funny.....

And yes that happens to people all the time.... there are so many times when I call somewhere an I cant understand a word they are saying.....

Landscaping is a full time job around here too. In the summer months they plant flowers, take care of lawns, etc. In the winter months they cut and ship Christmas trees.

This is a list of people(real name not necessary) who can not get a job because of illegal aliens taking those jobs. I would like to limit it to the following:

1) Must be a person you know, or once removed, meaning a friend of your friend.

2) The person must be seeking a full time daytime position.

3) Must be seeking work in "the jobs that American do not want" -Farming, Landscaping, Hotel, etc...

Why the list? Because I personally believe it is inaccurate to say illegals are "taking American jobs away from americans". I for one have never met a person that said they can not get a job because of illegals in the above industries. I ask that you be honest in your replies.

Yes, both farming and landscaping position that require 8+ hours of daytime work.

around here that's considered seasonal work......not full time employment. kind of a loaded question you started off with, isn't it?

Well, around here we consider full time employment as 40 hrs a week, typically 8hrs a day, 5 days a week. Part time being 4 hrs a day or less than 30 hours a week.

When you classify something as "Seasonal", it is not a "Permanent" position, nor necessarily a temporary. So, yes, you can have full time seasonal work.

But you knew that didnt you? I think you know perfectly well the type of positions I am refering to. And it is my guess that since you can not come up with a single name of a person that has lost a full time job to an illegal, you are choosing to try to nit pick at my wording of the post just to be arguementative.

Please do me the courtesy to stay on topic and only list names of people who have lost a job to an illegal. Thanks a bunch, my friend.

I have to applaud your honesty even though you mischaracterize the purpose of the thread. At least you acknowledge the attempt to derail the thread.

So far we have a big fat ZERO for people who have lost their jobs due to illegals but a few attempts at derailing by several members who have been spreading the misinformation of this issue.

Ok, since you can not seem to adapt to the simple instructions, I release you from any restrictions. Please list any person you know that has lost any job to an illegal period. You may even include such people as a student who wants to work part time but cant because there is an illegal willing to do that job full time.

I do agree it is a dead thread in the sense that I will not be able to create a list. And the reason i wont be able to is because this sound byte utter by people in your camp is not based in fact.

I'm bloody British and I have problems getting understood sometimes. My "favourite" is when I'm asked what dressing I would like on my salad. If I ask for ranch the average server thinks I'm saying "raunch". I don't think Kraft make a Raunchy Dressing, perhaps there is a potential market there for it. *ponders* Anyway, I think language problems happen to everyone and I'm 100% positive that Nessa did not post that joke to offend. So I ask that people don't take it in any other intended way. It's all about the intent and I don't think anything nasty was intended in this case. Thanks.

From the persepective of an ESL instructor who works really hard with her students on pronunciation, that joke is amusing. When taking into consideration the xenophobia and hate on this forum, it's sooo tacky. And makes me happy that I'm surrounded by people who celebrate diversity and applaud people's attempts to learn English.

I totally agree, the xenophobia on VJ is shockingly unbelievable.

And to answer the OP's question: No, I haven't met one person who has said they've lost a job or the opportunity to be employed because of an illegal alien.
