heard some a$$hat talk that kind of ####### the other day on NPR and it made me angry. With all this blurring that's been purposely pushed out there, what is the public supposed to base an informed opinion on? [/rant]

Man, *no kidding*! I listen to AirAmerica on certain occasions & like NPR, I expect to hear a more informed opinion expressed, or a side to the news that I don't already hear from MassMedia. No chance. The 'liberals' are just as uninformed and inflammatory as Rush is for his side.

The 2 hosts I usually enjoy best have spouted some of THE most ridiculous claims on the immigration topic that it's caused me to doubt *everything* else they've said in the past. If they can't be bothered to fact check onthis, why should I believe the other things they say are 'true'?

It drives me nuts. Yeah, gov't & these topics might be boring sometimes, but We The People have to do some dirty work sometimes to understand the issues we're being asked to decide upon! Even the Prez sez "it's haaaaard work". :P

yo, clmarsh: great post on craigslist btw. Our list isn't even having the conversation.... Might have to hijack your thoughts & post them in the other Portland ;)

I am not sure this is the right place for this but I had to add my two cents worth. In today's Cleveland Plain Dealer on the front page is about the illegal immigrants in Ohio. It was written almost as if to feel sorry for them. Sorry but I don't feel sorry for them at all. One family was complaining because they came here illegally with one son and now have 2 children that are U.S. citizens because they were born here. They fear they will be deported. Well you know what take them back with you and come across legally. Another woman was quoted in the paper as saying she has a right to be here for all her hard work and the taxes she has paid. Ok I want to know what taxes she has paid. If you don't have a SSN, you don't pay taxes. The only tax they are paying is sales tax.

This topic has made me so heated that I have wrote the reporter on the article to tell him how each of us is struggling here to get our loved ones here legally.

Ok I will quit complaining now but this really irritates me.

Jen

I'm not going to get into this again, but just to address some of your points-if that family were to just "go back" as you say, it would involve having to immigrate 2 children to Mexico, which in itself is not a walk in the park. This involves uprooting them from school and thrusting them into an EXTREMELY different way of life and environment. They may not even speak Spanish, at least not even as their first language. More and more as children are born in the US, they actually prefer to speak English. That's certainly unfair to the US citizen children. Not to mention there would be no real way for that family to return legally. There's no "I want to come over and bring my whole family just cuz" visa. Also, as for the taxes, it is very likely she does pay income taxes using what can be referred to as a "dummy" SSN, or one supplied to illegals for the purposes of tax paying, or an ITIN which many others have.

Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain...just stand up and COMPLAIN!

Whatever....I said what I had to say. I am not going to argue over this.
