Actually, Mr. Fancypants, people have gotten denied in Juarez for admitting to drinking regularly! Some people have answered yes when asked if they drink recreationally, and off to the shrink for them! This can result in a visa denial and three year ban as well!

Not that you're going to get hardcore smack or crack addicts applying for visas, but govts thumbing their noses at people who use 'soft' substances seems a little strange to me.

I wonder if anyone else finds it odd that certain addictive substances which cause all manner of social problems can be enjoyed in moderation, but certain others which are classified as illegal for the weirdest and most inconsistent of reasons can only be "abused".

Not really a comment on this particular case - but just seems a little strange is all.

I agree....if you're an alcoholic, we'll take you, but if you smoke weed, we don't want your kind.

1 - weed is illegal

2 - alcohol isn't

nothing to see here folks, move along.

Wow! :o I imagine if these rules were in place at the time of the founding of this nation, we would have missed out on such great people as Ben Franklin. I can understand if a person has had prior convictions related to alchohol and drugs, but without a criminal record it is far too reaching, IMO.

From what I've heard on another forum the medical facilities in Juarez are pretty crooked. Thankfully we didn't have to deal with this when Javi went to his interview. I've heard more and more horror stories from people going through Juarez. It's bad enough they don't have a great opportunity to get here in the first place, but now it seems they are finding any little thing to keep them out.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

Bootylicious...how did you get around the medical? Just guessing, but maybe DCF?

Being in Juarez at the consulate and surroundings is reallt a hallucinatory experiences.

No kidding, Mr. Fancypants...quite amazing, isn't it? I would have been LIVID had homeboy been denied because of some stupidity like that.

We didn't get around the medical. We had to do it. He was just lucky enough to have answered all the questions right. I drilled him before he went in there though. Plus, we really happened to go before all this mess got started down there. It seems like it just keeps getting worse and worse. They really need to do something. Our biggest issue with the medical was he took his shot record with him but they still made him get all his vaccinations again. Even though he didn't need them, I guess they needed the money he had to pay for them.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

This article is in espanol. Read article here.

Essentially it reports that the pop star (Mexican national) and her hubby, ( i think some dude from Spain) had applied for USA residency and were like all other applicants required to go through Ciudad Juarez.

Unlike all other folks, the clinic where the lab works are done closed its doors to the public for two hours whilst the star and her hubby were processed. Both failed the drug test. She tested positive for marijuana; he for marijuana, cocaine and escasty(sp?).

Soo, of course denied and reportedly given a 3 year ban.

The article does not say on what basis she was applying for residency as neither applicant is a resident/citizen of the US of A. prolly the monied visa route.

:energetic:

It was because she was smoking the whacky-tabbacky.

They are both crack skanks brother almaty. They can't sing, but apparently no one cares when you show up for your 'show' in underwear

I wonder if Tommy Mottola (Thalia's hubby) had to wait in line to get her skanky azz here.
