USC Changing Name before Interview

My wife wants to finally change her name. We have been married since January and it's hard explaining why she has a different name to everyone who asks. She is the sponsor on the I864 and family petition (I130 approved).

Can we file the change of name with her Drivers License, SSN all that - file for passport and go in to the interview with all documentation proving who she is? Or is there a form we have to fill to update the case?

We fear updating the case will FURTHER throw back our time line so that's the only thing holding us back from changing everything now. Any tips/advice is appreciated.
