Do most USC attend Consulate interviews with their fiances/spouses?

I don't really need an excuse to go see my baby, but is my (the USC) presence required at the Montreal interview? I want to go anyway, but, what is the

'official' view?

09/19/2007: Withdrew CIC application (they still hadn't processed anything)

10/01/2007: Moved back to U.S.

07/25/2008: NOA-1s for all 3 received

08/20/2008: Biometrics appointment

08/22/2008: Received RFE for Affadivit of Support and Medical

10/21/2008: Submitted I-865W in lieu of co-sponsor and medical info to NSC

11/14/2008: online case status not updated since filing of AOS in July 2008

01/20/2009: Received another RFE for Affadavit of Support Info

02/02/2009: Responded to RFE with brand new AOS based on 2008 tax return (if that doesn't shut them up, dunno what will)

02/19/2009: EAD card received in mail (no updates on Online Case Status ever made)

02/23/2009: AP received (again, no online updates)

02/26/2009: Received interview appointment letter for 4/6/09

04/06/2009: AOS approved for unconditional GC

04/21/2009: GC received

Not required by any means, but it doesn't hurt. :) My husband came with me to my interview. They only asked him one question, "so what do you do?" (in regards to work -- small talk).

2007-04-16: I-485 and I-765 sent to Chicago (My AOS/EAD checklist)

2007-04-17: Received at Chicago

2007-04-23: NOA1 date (both)

2007-05-10: Biometrics appointment (both - Biometrics review)

2007-06-05: AOS interview letter date

2007-06-13: AOS interview letter received in mail

2007-07-03: EAD card production ordered

2007-07-07: EAD card received! (yay!)

2007-08-23: AOS interview (Documents / Interview review)

2007-08-23: Green card production ordered!!!

2007-08-24: Welcome notice mailed!

2007-08-27: Green card production ordered again... ?

2007-08-28: Welcome notice received!

2007-09-01: Green card received!

Done with USCIS until May 23, 2009!

I will buy anyone willing to show up in Toronto an Apache Burger (YUM) if I can get a break from the Phoenix heat and my hubby gets an interview in July 2008 in Montreal.

Mine was originally going to come up, but couldn't get the time off (She worked at the State deptartment) For Mtl the USA spouse isnt required, other consulates in the world the USA spouse is strongly encouraged to be there. The interview in Mtl for the majority is very quick,like less than 10 minutes!! The majority of your time spent at the consulate is spent sitting around!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

My USC came with me to the interview, and I am so glad he did because they spent more time chatting with him than they did with me. (Thus allowing me to continue in my catatonic state.) Besides that, Montreal is a great city so we made a holiday out of it!

My hubby to be didn't come to the interview -- not that he didn't want to, mind you! -- and honestly I was glad he didn't, because he would have been infinitely more nervous than I was, and would have said something wrong! :P

I didn't. I had to teach and Connecticut to Vancouver seemed a waste of a ticket for what was going to be a slam-dunk interview.

Hehehe.

Not required. I'm planning to go. My parents live just across the border from Vancouver, so I will get to visit with them too, and maybe go to Vancouver Island (something I've not yet done) with my fiance to celebrate. Quite a few of the USC partners have not gone because it was a choice between taking time off to go to the interview and taking time off to help their other half move.

I know it's not required, but I would've felt horrible if I didn't give my wife support and just spend time with her during one of the biggest moments of our life :)

My wife has been back since June 5, 2007. Now we're just livin' man, L I V I N :)
