Hi,

Carlos got his Green Card on Monday. :dance::dancing::yes: Actually this was the second one. The first arrived earlier this summer with a mistake on it. It had my birthday on it and not his. That meant more paperwork and proof of his birth date and more waiting.

We tried not to dwell on it too much. The only thing was his brother is getting married in Chile in April and it's getting time to search for good fares.

Quick question to confirm... we are now able to travel freely outside the US. He'll use his Chileno passport and his Green Card to get back into the country. Is that correct?

Thanks for all the advice and encouragement during this process, especially in waiting for the K-1 visa. This site is invaluable.

We also didn't have an interview.

It seems very easy. I've read other's comments and their experiences have been far more complicated.

Am I missing something here? This whole process makes one very paranoid!

If someone could explain the next steps, I'd appreciate it.

You are free to travel now but would recommend that the LPR doesn't stay outside the U.S. for more than six months.

10/01/2010: Application was sent.

10/04/2010: Application was received.

10/06/2010: Email received "Application has been received" & Noticed Date.

10/07/2010: "Touch"

10/08/2010: "Touch" & Check was Cashed

10/09/2010: NOA1 Received via mail.

10/22/2010: Status Changed Online "Request for evidence" It was for Biometrics.

10/25/2010: Request for evidence recieved "Biometrics Notice".

11/18/2010: Biometrics date ==> 11:00AM. Biometrics was taken On time.

12/03/2010: "Yellow Letter" Received.

12/06/2010: "Touch" Case Moved to "Testing and Interview".

12/08/2010: Interview Letter received via mail.

01/13/2011: Interview Date. Done, " Thanks To ALLAH, I Passed the Test.

01/18/2011: Oath Letter was Sent.

01/20/2011: Oath Letter Recieved via mail.

01/28/2011: Oath Date. ==> Done, I am a U.S. Citizen

01/31/2011: Applied for a U.S. Passport Book, And, U.S. Passport Card.

02/25/2011: Passport Book's Received.

02/26/2011: Passport Card's Received.

02/28/2011: Certificate Of Naturalization's Returned.

Congratulations!! Finally your journey has ended!! :dance:

Yeap, all you need are passport and GC only! But u cannot stay outside of the U.S for longer than 6 months, if you need to, you can apply for re-entry permit :)

I think it's just the paperwork that makes us so confused. After the paperwork is sent in, it is just waiting.

Next steps? Just LIVE LIFE HAPPILY until 3 months before the green card expires! :yes: Then you have to put together another packet of paperwork (Removing Conditions)! :wacko:

While VJ is a fantastic resource, I've often observed that it makes people pre-freak out due to the volume of questions and problems that do get posted. People who are confused, who have a problem or a question stand out more because there are more of them than there are people here who just don't post a lot because... they have no questions or problems and everything is fine and dandy with their lives (and USCIS case processing). I am fairly convinced that most people are in the latter category, but like I said, the former category is more noticeable because they post more actively.

For most people, all you need to do is sit down, relax, follow the instructions that come with the forms, read the guides here, and you will usually be fine. You can freak out when you do have a real problem, if you're into freaking out. ;)

Timeline:

2005-04-14: met online

2005-09-03: met in person

2007-02-26: filed for K-1

2007-03-19: K-1 approved

2007-06-11: K-1 in hand

2007-07-03: arrived in USA

2007-07-21: got married, yay!

2007-07-28: applied for green card

2008-02-19: conditional green card in hand

2010-01-05: applied for removal of conditions

2010-06-14: 10-year green card in hand

2013-11-19: applied for US citizenship

2014-02-10: became a US citizen

2014-02-22: applied for US passport

2014-03-14: received US passport
