Cheese food is NOT cheese!!

Cheez Whiz is one of a number of "processed cheese foods", a category including similar products like Velveeta and some types of individually-wrapped cheese slices. These products contain regular cheese that has been reprocessed along with additional ingredients such as emulsifiers and stabilizing agents, such as xanthan gum or carrageenan. These products derive their tanginess and flavor from additional ingredients such as citric acid and flavoring compounds. Annatto is used for coloring.

Not as gross as Velveeta, CHEESE PRODUCT. blech!

In 2002, the FDA warned Kraft that Velveeta was being sold with packaging that described it as a "pasteurized processed cheese food," which the FDA claimed was false ("cheese food" must contain at least 51% cheese). Velveeta is now sold as a "cheese product," using a term for items that contain less than 51% cheese.

To me, all this stuff is equally hideous. *shudders*

I'm not much into vomit either to be honest. Can't really speak to that comparison. :P

I hear what you're saying Amber. Cheese, as well as all dairy products, at least here in MO anyway, have really risen lately. I'm a huge cheese lover. It's one of those things right now, that I'm not willing to sacrifice on though. I buy some products that are generic, so that I can have name brand things that I like. I guess running a cafe, you have to maybe look at increasing your product price, as the prices arise, or maybe not putting cheese on an item unless it's ham and cheese or something? Tough choices!

i love Cheez Whiz and yes I know it isn't real cheese but I don't care :P

although the Cheez Whiz down here tastes more like nacho dip... I want some good old Canadian Cheez Whiz... :(

I buy a bottle of CDN cheez whiz every time I go home.. It just tastes better.. and is more "rich" that the American Crappy Cheese Whiz.. *chuckles..

I agree cheese is expensive, but I only buy goat cheeses (Chevres) (gouda, soft type etc) so I guess i expect to pay a higher price.. but it's darn yummy!
