So!

My green card has been expired since April. I filed for removing conditions in March. I got a letter on March 11th (I think) extending my residency for a year but I, uh, seem to have misplaced it.

I figure I can get proof of residency from the San Antonio district office (it being the one that serves Austin), but the site says I need to schedule an Infopass appointment...but when I try and schedule one it says "there are no appointments available".

Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but I start a new job on the 12th and don't want my residence status to get in the way! Should I just drive up to San Antonio and try and talk to someone? Or is there anything else I can do?

Speaking as HR ......... When you fill in your I-9, when you start your new job, you will have to provide evidence of your identity and evidence that you are entitled to work. Most people in our position wave present their permanent resident card, which doubles up for both. However, this is not necessary if you have changed your SSN card for an unrestricted one. All the employer needs to see is official picture ID (such as a drivers license) and your unrestricted SSN. You also have to say you are a permanent resident and write down your A#, but it is not necessary to show your card to your employer or give them any other proof.

Of course, if you never got around to changing your SSN when you got your residency ................

Hope this helps!
