That depends if you will change your name after getting married.

Last name changes are a very straightforward thing to do upon getting married.

On the other hand, and at least in the state of Pennsylvania, changing your middle or first name requires a court order. My wife wanted to use her maiden name to replace her middle name but the hassle of going through the courts made her change her mind, so she tacked my last name on to hers, separated with a space. She's the US citizen so obviously she didn't have to have that change recorded by USCIS, just by social security and the DMV, but if it had been her, it would have been very easy.

To answer your question straight, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that you pick a name and stick to it. If you want to keep your full maiden name after getting married, it is your right to do so (although that may raise questions at your green card interview). If you want to replace your last name Bacumbacal with your husbands, then you will from that point on be known as Annie Santos Smith. You can also do what my wife did, keep your maiden name and tack your husband's name at the end like this: Annie Santos Bacumbacal Smith.

You can also do Annie Santos Smith-Bacumbacal... it doesn't matter. Just decide for yourself.

Tradition in the US and most of the "West" says that you just take your husband's name upon marrying, but there is no law governing that.

So like I said... pick a name and stick to it!

As what Shub said you can choose any name you want and stick to it.

In my case i did it like this:

Maiden Name: Gloria Estrada Arroyo

changed to: Gloria Estrada Bush

I did this to avoid the conflict of Middle Name on my passport and AOS application

Other people did like this and didn't have a problem:

Maiden Name: Gloria Estrada Arroyo

Changed to : Gloria Arroyo Bush
