Age Difference An Issue?

Unless the age difference is just ludicrous (80 year-old USC, 19 year-old woman fi), it's only going to come in to play if other things about the case look suspicious. At that time I think it would only be another data point amongst other questionable data points. As a starting point though, I don't think it's going to be a problem.

Now your family, OTOH, might give you a little bit of trouble. :) My brother is 32, and he started dating a local woman who was 19. Thought my mom was going to have the "big one." :)

Just to let you all know ...

I'm 35 (male) and have a UK passport, my fiance is 21 and a USC ... sharp intake of breath, eh? I know what you mean about families Moxcamel ... and I heard that one question asked can be about how the future in-laws feel about the relationship. As part of our evidence for the i-195F we submitted pictures of us with her family in both the US and Ireland - her family cool about it. My Catholic Irish family took a while to warm to the idea but once they got used to us being together they were Kool and the Gang!!!

Thanks for your answers everyone.

That didn't make me even flinch. No sharp intake of breath here

Your circumstances are fine, I wouldn't worry.

I am 25 (Female UK citizen) and my fiance is 40 (US citizen) I don't really see your circumstances as being all that different really.

Hi,

Am a bit worried now. I am a 30 yr old Indian girl and my fiance is 25. I wasn't worried abt the age difference till now?? Should I be??

You think five years is a big difference? Man, every older couple in America has a difference of at least that, I couldn't imagine them questioning that at all.

Hi All,

It's not supposed to be an issue per the guidelines I have read, but any consulate can make an issue out of anything. They have total control. As long as you and your fiance/e are comfortable with it and prepared for any questions, you shouldn't have any problems.

...and of course, if she you are 28 and she is 13....that 15 year difference will be an issue...but knowing the government, they prolly have a waiver for it.

Hey Kevin, is that picture from Nha Trang?

30 and 25 is hardly a Cougar and a Boy Toy but if it was 25 and 40 with the woman order, you better have the rest of your ducks in a row. Like it or not, such a relationship will raise far more eyebrows than a 25 year difference when the man is older. My wife and I are 12 years apart. I know lots of far wider age differences where the man is older that have visas but some of them had a lot more questions to answer than many others did, not one of them about the age difference. All were about the bona fides.

Just wondering, what are the bona fides? The proof of relationship? Any tips to completely (as much as possible) avoid them finding anything not bona fide? I'm 25 and she's turning 25 this month so age isn't really an issue.

Evidence of a bona fide ongoing relationship. The issue is more commonly one of finding too little evidence but sometimes there are specific problems like finding actual contrary evidence.

Examples: Just for starters...

Beneficiary's family is paying the petitioner to fake a relationship.

Beneficiary still lives with their child's other parent. (Perhaps the petitioner thinks it's a sibling.)

USC is wealthy female, 25 years older than the beneficiary who is poor. They've visited once in two years and have little evidence of ongoing relationship.

USC is relatively poor and has a recent divorce but can't show evidence their former spouse lives elsewhere.

Petitioner is beneficiary's sibling or first cousin.

If the relationship is bona fide and well documented, denials based on bona fides do happen but fairly rarely.
