Did anyone translate their own documents for AOS?

Hi there

I'm getting things ready to submit AOS. I'm fluent in English and Spanish and I was wondering if it's ok for me to translate my own birth certificate for the AOS package.

I know I have to sign at the bottom that I'm fluent in both languages using the format requested by USCIS

I typed name , certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and

languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the

document attached entitled .

I'm not a certified translator, but I'm confident that I can translate this short document accurately. I already have it written and Justin proof read it for me, and said it looks good.

I used a similar statement for USCIS when I translated Fernanda's birth certificate. I'm not "certified" either.

No problems.

We both translated but he signed off on it (his), and he got his green card about 6 months ago.

We had already had his BC translated because I wasn't sure I could have done it...

I translated my husband's BC for him and we got approved with no problems.

I also translated docs (marriage cert., police cert., etc) for a woman on Craig's List and haven't heard back from her raving mad that she received an RFE for crappy translations.

My husband and I collaborated to translate his (Turkish) BC for the AOS. He had it translated previously, prior to receiving the K1 visa, but had not kept a copy of the translation. He is fairly fluent in English and Turkish, so he did a rough translation into English and I changed the wording to make it sound a little more "official".

...keeping our fingers crossed it'll be ok. We really don't want to have to pay (again!) for a translator...

We both signed the translation and stated that we possess a "comprehensive combined knowlege of both languages".
