Greetings all,

I need a little advice on shipping and customs handling when sending items to the US. I've just received my approved K1 visa in the post \o/ and I'm now looking into sending personal items and belongings to the states. There has been a few other posts regarding the same topic but due to the conflicting information I've found it all very hard to grasp and understand. The information I have read and understood is that some how I'll be exempt from paying custom duties on my belongings and personal effects, if they're over a year old. Now to what I don't understand. There has been a lot of mention of having to send personal effects to the states AFTER you have arrived in the states.. which seems a little odd. Everything I'm sending is over a year old and I'm just not sure how I proceed to be exempt from the custom duties. Also, would there be any reason why I should NOT use UPS for my shipping?

If anyone could shed some light on this to clear it up I'd very much appreciate it.

Graham
