They did mention one British couple in the article but it is a pity that they didnt mention that it is couples from all over the world including US allied countries and that it is every immigrant no matter what country that has to face the same hurdles.

And that means what though? Does anyone here actually think this article 'spreads the word' about our 'plight'? So mentioning a Brit couple makes it better? I'm gonna piggyback off your comment to go on a general tangent for a sec or two.

Think about when you told your family/friends you were going to marry and sponsor someone from another country...whether they like the guy/gal or not...didn't you get that 'you're so crazy!' response from someone? That's cos most people DON'T think 'outside the box'...most people choose the safe option, so the things that we do are 'foreign' (no pun intended) to many.

If I were reading that article not having a foreign born SO, I'd say 'Wendy chose it, she needs to deal with it. Too bad if she doesn't wanna be a farmer's wife.' I'd applaud the gov't for having such strict guidelines and restrictions because they do so for 'our safety'. I'd say 'well she can move to him if she wants him so bad' Cos at the end of the day, it is not a 'right' to bring over our partners.

The complicated cases DO take a while...and don't even get me started on the AOS delays. But honestly...I've planned a party longer than I've waited for my NOA2 thusfar. Is it any cause for 'GETTIN IT OUT TO THE MEDIA'? Not so much.

And having VJers even distinguish within ourselves...like 'oh well we met in person' or 'oh my fiance is from an allied country' (lke you did above) seems like we're differentiating ourselves from ppl like U.S. Wendy. Why? (sidenote: Don't get me wrong....even having been on this site and talking to ppl for so long, I can't personally understand how one falls in love on the internet/phone or to someone when neither shares a common language. But ok...it obviously happens, so it's not for me to understand.) And if that's someone like me who also has a foreign born so, who's been here for 2 years seeing all the success stories of internet romances and the like....well how does the regular joe schmoe regard falling in love 'with a foreigner' whilst on vacation/on the phone/internet/with age differences/no common language/etc/etc/etc? How in the world is it 'spreading awareness' in a 2 page blurb that has us all as 'fixated' and 'miserable'

Should this process really be hurdle free? Should the gov't say 'ok you love him, come on in!'??????

So spreading awareness....for what purpose? For some sort of acceptance? To start a grassroots campaign? What?

Oh well indeed....VJ likes to talk the part of being a positive support network, but maybe we aren't all that positive in attitude....god forbid being accused of just blowing rainbows up arses or somthing. It's just easier to pick apart the article AND the response comments. If someone one wants to find all the negativity....they will.

I admit to not knowing where albania is but because of this I'm googling it...my first guess was middle east like hers but I dunno eastern europe or something? I will look! ok so north of greece...that's probably how they met in greece...I love learning new things

You're right, at first when I saw that VJ was mentioned on the Washington Post, I thought 'wow that's cool'

Then I read the article and was like 'hrmm'...then I read the comments and thought 'the incident which shall not be mentioned' So i changed my opinion...and said so here.

After re reading the article today...well I think it could have been written a LOT better. And the fact that people are mocking us irritates me.

That 'Albanian' comment was sarcasm....yanno Albania/Algeria....I shoulda put a smiley to indicate sarcasm. I made that comment to highlight that I feel most people are ignorant when it comes to world geography. Nothing more, nothing less....
