My fiance Khaled does NOT speak english only arabic, french, or Italian. The letter of intent can we still use VJ's examples given or does he have to write it in his own language??

If he writes it in his own language, you have to pay to have it translated into english. So, your choice.

Technically you don't have to pay to get it translated--we had a friend translate some of my husband's documents (birth certificate and passport, I believe) and we had no problems.

As far as the letter of intent goes, my husband's WRITTEN English was not so great at the time (though he could speak quite well)--we just used something similar to the example on VJ. No one asked him about it.

if this petitioner speaks french arabic or italian fluently, there's no need for the beneficiary to learn any english, as far as the uscis and consulate is concerned. they just need to address that there is a common language spoken between them.

Yes, you can write it and have him sign it. My SO speaks english fine, but hates having to come up with something written, so I did it for him. He read it and thought it was fine and signed it.

First of all, go learn some english? Why should he be pushed to learn english it such a western view? It's unfortunate that 80% of Americans do not know a second language, why don't you go and learn arabic or spanish. Do you speak your fiancee's language? If you don't go and learn it.

We speak Italian to each other, which I'm a Latin american women who speaks english, spanish, italian and learning arabic and Khaled speaks arabic, french, Italian, Spanish and learning english.

A job for him will not be hard because, My sister and I own a french cuisine resturant and he has a culinary degree or certificate, so my proof of our 3 YEAR relationship can be proved just fine thank you.

Some of us Americans have a big issue with pushing our western views onto every single person who comes into this country.

You can not push people to speak the language they have to want to and he does and when he get here we will take care of that.

Sorry if you misunderstood. Frequently asked question by COs at the embassy interview is how do you communicate if you don't speak English.

At the same time it would be a plus if your man spoke English when he arrives in the US.

I don't think the poster was being negative in the post --- it's a very valid point that you will need to prove a common language, and if it's not English it can sometimes be more difficult. You're right it's great that you speak a 2nd language and your fiance does too - I think that the reality the poster was trying to reflect is how difficult it will be when your fiance comes and doesn't speak English, why not start learning now as it won't hurt anything. That's all, it's a long difficult process and once your fiance arrives in the US it doesn't get any easier unfortunately. Best wishes!
