It is actually very nice that time of the year in the Maritimes.

Are you planning a visit?

I am from Nova Scotia, and today it was 47 there today.

This year was the mildest winter they had in recorded history.

Last week they were having temp's of 70-80 degrees. :D

Are you planning a visit?

I have vacation days and no idea what I want to do with them. And I ran into a page on Nationalgeographic.com that calls the Maritimes one of the 50 must-see places in the world. And it's not too far from me, so why not?

This is going to sound ignorant but it just dawned on me that the region has >1 province :P Any recommendations on where to go for a 1 week vacation?

Well to be honest anywhere you go in Nova Scotia is beautiful.

Are you driving or flying?

Are you wanting to drive and see as much as you can, or are you just as happy to be in the city and see things there.

Driving along the coast is so beautiful. I miss the ocean so much since I moved here.

There is Peggy's Cove. That is a really nice place to visit. That is just outside of Halifax.

Then there is the Cabot Trail in Cape Brenton. That is something that everyone should experience. Althou it is nicer in the fall when the leaves are changing colours. I took my husband there when he visited one time, and he loved it. It took us 9 hours to drive around it, but its so worth it. Check it out on a website.

You wont be disappointed, I promise.

Were very warm and friendly people in the Maritimes.

yeah, but they're all small provinces so you can drop into all of them in just a week ;) Easier now that you can drive to PEI  I hates bridges myself, the ferry was so nice *sigh*

Halifax is a nice city, there's a Titanic exhibit at the Maritime Museum. You can drive to the other side of NS from there in just a couple of hours, then up to NB and over the bay to PEI.

the weather has been about the same as what NJ has been...only a few degree's cooler.

check out the Bay of Fundy area (New Brunswick)......which has 30 ft tides

when the tide is out you can walk on the ocean floor...lots to see in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia...if you are driving you have to drive through NB anyway and right past the exit to Fundy National Park.

I went for 9 days for my 30th birthday and wasn't bored. We spent some time in Halifax, drove around Nova Scotia, up around Cape Breton and then back for more time in Halifax, we didn't make it over to PEI or NFLD but it was still a great trip. Google for their Tourism site, they'll send you a guide book and maps :)

*Should've added that this was at the end of April, and we did come across some light snow on Cape Breton

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

i've never been to the maritimes even though i grew up in Canada..

One place i recommend you go to is Montreal. If you weren't married, i would tell you to go because it's been said that we have the most beautiful women in the world over there! lol

Well, on a more serious note, if you go to Montreal, you can drive 5 hrs and then you'll get to Toronto to see the Niagra Falls. You can also drive 3hrs away from Montreal to Quebec City, to a place called Sainte-Anne-De-Beaupre. They have really beautiful scenery and waterfalls where you can almost stand facing it and get wet there. You can also drive 70km (approx 45 miles) to get to Rawdon, where they also have waterfalls and camp sites, and a beach, and like a waterfall/river where some wackos dive in from the top of the mountain, oh and you can go strawberry picking on your way there for i think 4dollars for a big basket!!

If you don't want to rent a car, then there's all kinds of public transportation for a very cheap price... You'll get to try our metros (subway), trains, buses...

I know you asked about the maritimes, but i think you have to make a trip to montreal as well..

I grew up in PEI, it's beautiful in the summer, which is July and August. Of course, I went back for a visit in mid July one year and needed a warm coat! The island is about 400 miles long. If you're into pottery and crafts and things you could spend a while. If you like to eat lobster and seafood, it's there a-plenty. golf and beaches also.

You would be hard pressed to do more than 2 provinces and see much. I would suggest flying to Charlottetown, grabbing a car and leaving from either Moncton or Halifax. You could also drive up through Montreal from Jersey. While I've never been to beautiful Newfoundland, I know that it's better to fly there if you only have a few days, since the ferry there will take 1 day each way.

Heading Home!
