Choice of Address and Agent

Hi everyone ,

I would really appreciate if anyone could help me ...i have searched all the forums and did read the guides, unfortunatelly i couldnt find what i am looking for .

Here is my situation:

My husband is the petitioner for my children under CR2 visa classification.( He filled immigration visa 130- bringing step children to usa)

NVC just sent my husband the Affidavit of Support(i-864) proccesing fee bill(for my son)....together with a COPY of Choice of Address and Agent ..

From what i understand is that my children( the beneficiaries) who resides overseas, are going to receive the same document (Choice of Address and Agent) ..and i know that it needs to be signed and sent back to NVC .

MY questions are( and here is the dillemma) : Is it legally possible for a 10 years old child to sign such a document( Choice of Address and Agent)???? ..Are children under 14 years of age entitle to do that?

I didnt get any documents for my daughter yet ..she is 14 .

My second question is : Can my husband be their agent ? If yes..are they( my children) again elligible to assing an agent ..In case they are not ...who is elligible to sign the documents for them? What to do ???

Can someone pleassssssse help me?

I think a parent can legally sign for a child under age 18.

It is usually best if the agent is the U.S. person, because mail comes and goes from NVC in Vermont.

Its wonderful that my husband ( US citizen) could be their agent ..we can skip the mailing procedures to a country that takes FOREVER!

But then again....... i dont understand why would they still send this document to THEN * underage children since they are not elligible to sign a document!

If you are the mother, then yes you can sign for them. Normally, you would indicate next to your signature "parent of minor child" or something to that effect.

Why do they send it to the children? Well, they really don't know who to send it to, but it gets sent to the children, the right person should get it! Much of NVC is automated processing, and the system might not know dates of birth at this stage.

So can you please tell me how long the whole process took And also could you please let me know about the choise of agent if the above mentioned advices helped you. Because i will go through the same process too Thank you sooo much in advance
