Kurtis and I made it home safely!

Our entry into the United States was pretty painless, except for the long wait. We arrived at the custom booths for the Peace Bridge at around 2pm, were told to pull over to a little area beyond the booths and to go into Door 1. Once inside, we read the note on the double doors and took a seat. There were 5 couples/families waiting. It took about an hour and a half for the customs officer to call our name over the loud speaker. Kurtis gave the officer the packet from Montreal and then we sat down again until they called us into the processing room.

Once in, the rest of the process was a breeze. They took Kurtis's fingerprints for ID verification, plus a photo. We paid our $6 for the I-94. The officer was very nice (nothing like the people in Montreal) and answered any questions we had. Although we had to wait a long time in the waiting room, we were processed very efficiently and we were on the road again by 4pm.

Next step: our wedding on October 31st. :)

Mailed AOS packet- 1/23/2008

NOA issued- 1/30/2008

USCIS cashed check- 2/1/2008

Received RFE- 2/19/2008

Biometrics appointment- 2/21/2008 (in Providence, RI)

EAD application touched- 2/22/2008

Request for Evidence received by USCIS- 2/26/2008

EAD touched- 4/28/2008

AOS transferred to California Service Center- 5/16/2008

AOS touched- 5/27/2008

Called USCIS to have them do a case trace on our stale EAD- 5/27/2008

AOS touched- 5/29/2008

EAD card production ordered- 6/2/2008

AP approved- 6/2/2008

EAD received- 6/9/2008 (WOOHOO!!!!)

AP received- 6/9/2008

AOS touched- 6/19/2008

Total time it took to process EAD and AP- 129 days (boooo!)

Congrats!! What are you dressing up as on Oct 31?? lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

April 13, 2009 - Welcome to the USA letter rec'd. PRC to be rec'd within 3 weeks.

April 16, 2009 - 2 yr GC rec'd in mail.

March 2, 2011 - Mailed in I-751 to CSC

March 4, 2011 - I-751 delivered to CSC

March 4, 2011 - NOA issued

March 12, 2011 - NOA received

April 14, 2011 - BIO Appt 5/6/11

May 6, 2011 - BIO done in 10 minutes...no re-takes this time :)

June 27, 2011 - Email rec'd "Status - Approved"

July 1, 2011 - 10 yr GC arrived

Glad it went well! The 2 hour wait is kind of a bummer though.

Have you ever noticed how weird it is in the border crossing office. There is nothing there to look at, you are trying to look cool and nonchalant, not like a pet food smuggling, maple leaf waving criminal and all you can do is stare at the wall, or at the like 2 little framed pictures of a farm house on the wall.

Have a wonderful wedding! It's also my Mother's birthday and as I tell her that is quite appropropriate - I bought her a witches hat today.

10/24/2007 - INTERVIEW DATE!!!!!....APPROVED!!

10/30/2007 - Visa in hand!

AOS Timeline:

1/30/08 - Sent AOS pkg Priority Mail with USPS

3/12/08 - Biometrics taken

3/29/08 - EAD and AP in hand for me and my son

5/21/08 - Email-GC on its way!...RFE for my son's application

5/27/08 - GC arrives!!!

7/02/08 - Sons GC arrives!!!

ROC TIMELINE

3/23/10 - ROC sent!

3/29/10 - NOA1

4/22/10 - Biometrics Appt for me and my son

6/30/10 - Email saying card production ordered for me and my son

7/6/10 - Letter in the mail saying cards will arrive within 60 days

7/10/10 - Both cards received!
